Hello! I'm hoping I can get some help or advice here. I've had RA since 1-2 years of age, diagnosed at 2. I'm 43 now so it's been a while! The meds I take are prednisone, 10mgs per day to keep the swelling down, precocet 1 tablet 3-5 times per day, 40 mg of oxycontin twice, sometimes only once per day. My problem..I sweat a hell of alot. A 5 minute walk will leave me drenched. I've researched the meds I take and found that all of them cause sweating. I hate it so much I going to stop taking them, one at a time until I find which one it is. My questions are...

can a low dosage, 10 mg of prednisone be causing this? I'm inclined to believe it's one of the other 2 meds that are causing it since I only take 10 mg per day.
Would I have to ween off a low dosage like this?

How long would it take for each of this meds to clear my system? I plan on stopping 1 at a time, then go a week or 2 after it's out of my system. Does that sound right?

Weaning off of prednisone takes time. Ask your doctor for a time table. If you go too quickly you can have problems.

Amrix makes me sweat terrible.

Having attempted to wean off prednisone and failed, my doctor told me to drop 1 mg of it a month or even 2 months, so very very slowly. I managed to go from 15 mg to 5 but I am in pain continually now. When you've been on prednisone along time its very hard for you to drop it even on a low dose.
Oxycontin is also hard to get off, so I think you should talk to your doctor before you start experimenting. How are your hormone levels?
Are you male or female?
It could be some other problem is making you perspire?

If you have been on prednisone for years-which it sounds like maybe you have been it may take a year to get off of it successfully.
It surprises me that you have JRA and aren't on any meds to treat it. Your doctor keeps you on prednisone but doesn't have you on mtx or plaquenil on a biologic?
If you haven't already talked to your doctor about the why of that that would be first on my agenda.

Hello and nice to meet you!! I am also very embarrassed by bad sweating!! And most of it is around my hairline and neck! I do something simple....like make the bed and I start sweating....and can't seem to stop sweating once I start! I take plaquenil, morphine, gabapentin and cymbalta!

Anyway....it is miserable and embarrassing....but you are not alone!

I have the same problem! I never thought it might be the meds, but that would make sense. Someone told me recently that reflux can cause it as well, and I have that pretty bad as well (worsened by the meds!) It's awful and embarrassing!

Hi ive been on Prednisone for over 25yrs and can't stop taking it now, However Yes i too Sweat and at night i wake up litterally Drenched, i foten wondered it it was just a me thing also cant handle the Heat its like the Thermostat busted and i get HOTTER

if you try to wean off prednisone keep your doctor up to speed and do it SLOWLY Take Care of your self

I have been sweating like that for 12 years. I am so tired of being embarresed everywhere I go. I am 54 female. At first said it was hormones, then Fibromyalgia. I am on Cymbalta now and one of the side effects is sweating smhair I cant do anything outside when it is over 60 degrees, in the winter when I come in from cold it sets me off. Fir years I laughed it off as hot flashes but feeling like my head is in a oven and being drenched from the waist up in a matter of seconds just isnt funny. It also wears me out. I have not taken predisone and when mine first started I was not on any medication. Drs. also say it could me my thyroid even though I am hypo not hyper. After numerous Drs. I think mine is the Fibro. Keep us posted if you figure it out. Ive also tried every herb in the book. Didnt help. Im pretty much home bound with my IBS-D ritght now so this forum is my life. Sad as that is it is better then calling people at work to talk. Thanks forum

Talk with your doctor before coming off any of your medicines, as a few of them
can give you terrible withdrawal symptoms and it should only be done
with your doctors care...prednisone is not the only one that can
give you bad side effects...please do talk about this with your doctor.
Keep us posted on this as we do care and hope you can find out what's
causing this, but under your doctors care....

I have the same issue, and in my case, I have narrowed it down to MTX. I can't stop taking that though, at least not until the Humira kicks in quickly. In my case I sweat all over but especially my head and neck. My hair will be dripping wet with sweat in a matter of a few minutes. I do use a vaginal hormone cream now, and at least I don't soak the bed with sweat like I used to in my sleep. I had to start HRT therapy because I was so low on estrogen that I was getting serious, continual UTI's and they were anti-biotic resistant.

I really don't have an answer for you. Just dont' want you to feel as you are alone. You most definitely are not, judging from your resonses to your question! Please don't wean of prednisone until you talk to your doctor and ask him what he recommends. Are you nto taking and DMARD to stop the joint destruction?

y Drs. get on me for not taking meds. for my PSA but I cabnt seem to tolerate them. Im really thinking at my age I should just start taking pain meds because the others side effects are just not worth it.

What I know is that steroids can take over for your natural hormones. So when you go off sometimes you own hormones, such as you natural cortisol can be effected. So you should be supervised and in contact with your doctor. You have taken so may meds over the years you may know more than me. Not a bad idea to see an Endocrinologist about your problems at this point if you are long term on steroids, even low dose. My gut says maybe thyroid is causing sweats.
