Remicade infusions cost

I don't know anything about this medication, but I think most of the costs associated with
having a infusion is due to hospital, nurses and ect...I agree that the costs are out of control here
in the USA and I would hope that anyone who needs this type of treatment can get it...

It depends on the hospital too. The first hospital I went to was charging $25,000 *per* visit, $21,000 of which was supposed to be for the drug itself. My insurance covered the vast majority of the bill (I had to pay $1000 out of pocket), but it still disgusted me that they were charging that much for the medication. The current hospital I go to charges me $6000 total including nursing costs and whatnot; I don't remember what the out of pocket costs are exactly, but it is a much smaller amount. I'm actually getting a higher dose now, and the hospital I go to is right in NYC (while the old one was in hte middle of nowhere PA). I don't understand how they can get away with overcharging that much...

In the US, the drug manufacturer, Centocor has a reimbursement program if your insurance co-pay is more than $500 for the medication (not the associated costs of infusion). It's called the RemiStart program.

After insurance covers it's part, the cost to me for just the drug is $729 of which I can get $550 covered by the Remistart program. They cover up to $4,400 per year but it seems that you can keep applying for extensions -- I'm on my third extension. It's called a reimbursement program but actually its a debit card that you can use to pay the doctors bill.

For the infusion costs, my insurance covers all but a $35 co-pay. It's still not cheap but $200+ per dose is better than $700+ dose!
