Hi!!!
I'm a little bit of a different case as my arthritis is caused by crohn's (just one of those lucky ones where 1 out of 5 gets arthritis and 1 out of 5 woman crohn's patients get endometriosis I've got all 3)
anyway much like you not much as been working since I was diagnosed 6 years ago. Remicade, humira, prednz and sulfasalazine... and the NSID I can't take due to the crohn's... feel like a dog chasing my tail. I've been on MTX for the last year and half however I got off of it for 4 months (try to detox to have a baby but it got so bad I gave up and went back into MTX) but ever since it hasn't been working like it did before especially not to it's fullest. So I'm in the mist as well of changing meds. He suggested Kineret have any of you taken this? believe it or not I love to travel.. crohn's/arthritis or not it's my passion in life I can't see myself injecting daily (especially when I dreded humira bi-weekly) OR taveling with needles how much of a hassle that would be!!
So I was looking into Orenica but I just don't know enough like you. I also wouldn't be able to do enbrel cause it's just like humira and remicade I already know it wont work. I'm so confused with all the meds there are so many now. I was confused reading all your posted so I got a site that tells us both names (brands and gen) For me it's important I choose right as I will be going through IVF in APril so I cant have anything that takes a long time to detox. Like MTX needs 3 months... one of the meds you've mention (I think the infusion once every 12-15 weeks needs a 12 month period of detox that'd be pointless for me) so here is my break down.... hope this helps!!! and if anyone has suggestion of which one helped them the most, and the quickest would be greatly appreciate
Abatacept (Orencia) 4 week infusion OR 1 self injection weekly you can take this alone OR if not working well may be mix with methotrexate
Orencia works by inhibiting T cells. T cells are a type of white blood cell (leukocytes) that play an important role in the immune system. Orencia seems to prevent T cells from being active and multiplying too much.
So from my understanding
this IS different then humira, remicade as it's a T-cell inhibiter as suppose to a TNF-blocker which is remi and humira.
Rituximab (Rituxan)is given in 2 infusions in 2 weeks and then treatment goes from every 6-9 weeks (these infusions takes a few hours)
this med targets CD20-positive B-cells (so different again from humira and remi an enbrel)
Kineret (anakinra) - targets interleukin-1 or IL1 (again different from TNF-blockers) this is done by self injection daily (as I was mentioning)
these are the 3 we should consider since WE KNOW tnf-blocker isn't for us and they just don't work.
There are others I am sure I don't see but the mention of simponi is aslo a tnf blocker
Tocilizumab (Actemra), infusion every 4-8 weeks and takes 30 mins to infuse
this med, binds to interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the body and blocks the effects of IL-6 in patients with rheumatoid arthritis
hope this clearifies for some for some of us who was wondering it has for me!!! but what hasn't helped is which one is better for me!! we never know huh until we try and suffer :((((
