Hi trying to do a little survey on Rhumatoid pain and the elevation of where you live

for example who lives at sea level verses who lives in highlands mountain areas

have you taken a holliday to a certain area and felt better?

For Example i live in Mountain area 950 meters (about 3/4 mile i think?) above sea level.

and epecially when weather comes in we are surrounded by cloud i feel Horrid Everything Achs

so the Questions are;

  1. What Elevation to sea Level are you
  2. Do you feel better or worse at diffrent elevations
  3. do you feel better or worse with rain verses storm or sunny
  4. have you felt Bad with build up to storm then Good once Rain starts

Hello! I live in Ohio, near Lake Erie, in the original Black Swamp area. This area is actually below sea level. I haven't traveled much lately, but I've never known elevation to have any affect on how I feel. I usually can tell when the weather is going to get bad, or storm, because I have a really bad day. I can't say I feel much better when the rain starts. I've always been a lover of storms and rainy days, so I hate it that now I usually feel worse in that type of weather. I usually do feel less pain on sunny days.

wow Below sea level ? i too love storms i love the satin feel the air gets and yes it anoys me that i flare up with it,

i find when the storm is building i feel bad then as it rains it is like a releae like someone turned the tap on and let the fluid out.

i visited the sea and felt a lot better same with the desert area it was Very Dry sunny Climate

And To EveryOne you Don't have to Tell me Where you live im not being Nosey just if high or low area

Humid climates, pending storms and pressure changes (from altitude, flying, etc) all aggrevate my joints. I live in Indiana and when I go out to the dry, arrid southwest I feel WONDERFUL. I'm planning on retiring to that part of the country.

I live in a suburb of Washington D.C. Don't know if I'm below sea level or not. The big joke around here is _ if you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes and it will change. I always ache when we have a storm front coming in, but feel better once it's here. I was told by my first RA Dr that the weather didn't effect joints - boy was he way off. Have never been to the Southwest where the air is dry. I have a BIL that just retired and moved to New Mexico and keeps asking me to come out. I think I may have to go and see how I feel and if I do feel better, it might be a good place to retire.

We are in a higher elevation, but the higher I get the worse I get, and I'm talking 9,000 ft and above...11,000 and I am absolutely miserable!

Georgia foothills....
Storms cause horrible pains for me.
Too much sun hurts too.
A partly cloudy day with a slight breeze feels best for me.

Hi I'm at sea level so don't know much about altitude but definately a sudden change in weather from hot to cold or cold to hot can make me flare. Don't like cold damp weather much either. But a sudden spike in either direction and I can have a bad day.

Someone once mentioned its to do with barometric pressure. High pressure is no good for inflammation.

But I can't remember why?

Wow Thank you All i thought altitude and weather effected us but my Rhumy alo scoffed at that but when we go to the next town we have to go Down the Mountain and i tart feeling better then comming home the higher we get the worse i feel.

i Also went for a Holliday to Lightning Ridge it is a sort of a Desert place where they mine Opals very dry and the weather was Warm but Clear and i had the best 4 Days i Felt Light hardley Any Pains the whole time.

Hi. I have Fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis along with HIV+ ..I live at 3800 feet, in the southern California high desert, and my experience is that when I travel to at least 8000 feet, my pain is almost non existent. I traveled to Coronadonational forest where I stayed for two weeks and I had virtually no pain. Whereas here I am in pain most of the time. I movedto a higher elevation in the California mountians (8000) ft and again my pain level was way lower. Unfortunfortunately I am stuck here now due to finances...but whenever I can , I drive to the mountains. Oddly, I even get relief coming from the rainy desert to the snowy mountians 40 minutes away. Although I have read of others with like experience, it seems we are the lower percentage. Is anyone else here like me that can explain this, and if so, what can be done except move?

My rheumatologist did not scoff when I told him weather changes make the arthritis pain flare up...he said he's talked to enough patients to know that there's something to it. He seems to be getting better at listening now that he's older. He used to seem oblivious to anything I said. Maybe it was my fault, as I've always hated whining, and usually try to play down my pains.
