Hello all, I feel bad to keep posting questions on here, but I am still learning. So my rheumy put me on 24mg of medrol for a week, but after 2 days I had soooo much pressure in my head and my arms, knees and face felt like they were on fire. I kept thinking I had a fever but didn't. The dr told me to drink more water so I did, but didn't get any better. After 2 days of no sleep due to the pressure in my head I went to the er and of course they were not sure what was going on. Got in contact with my rheumy dr an she took me off the meds immediately. Almost 2 days later the pressure is gone and I no longer feel hot. Has anyone else had this problem with this med? And if so what were they able to treat the pain with? Thanks!

Hi Teslagirl, I've felt hot before but no pressure, that sounds awful. I think its fairly common to get the roid flush though.
Maybe see if you can tolerate a lower dose of prednisolone rather than medrol? If you react that strongly you might get away with a low dose? You will have to talk to your rheumy, they are your best option. Anti inflammatories with pain killers may work as a stop gap until they get your symptoms under control. What else did he/she prescribe for you?

Hello thanks for the info.. My pcp prescribed me Ralefen 750 twice a day. My rheumy got back to me today and told me to continue the Ralefen and Percocet for pain and I have more blood test to go do this weekend and go see her on Friday.. So we will see what she says then.

Hi Tesa,

I have used a medrol pack in the past for hives and I don't remember any issues. I'm on prednisone 10mg now for the r.a. swelling/pain. My side effects center around being hungry, gaining weight and sweating. Not a pretty picture. I do get hot rushes/flashes but I'm not sure if that is hormonal or the drug.

If I stop the prednisone, the swelling, stiffness and pain comes right back so I feel stuck. Hate it. I have a dr's appt next week and will be talking about this during the visit.

Thank you everyone.. It is possible it was a reaction to the meds. My Rheumy took me off and is doing more blood work this weekend and I have an appt next week.. I sure hope they come to a conclusion of what is wrong soon.
