Hi every one
I have had RA for about 5 years now and have been fighting with my doctor for the last 4 years about it .
But finally about a year ago he sent me to a specialist out of town . He perscibed

hydroxychlorquine 400 mg a day

methotrex 25 mg every sat

folic acid 5mg every week day morning

The problem is the pain so i go and see my family doc and he tells me to take tylenol #3 every 5 hours problem is i can not do any thing when i,m on them as i,m to buzzed.
So i go back to him and he puts me on m-eslon 10mg morphine at bed time it does help after taking it but in the morning i,m hurting just the same and as the day wears on it gets worse.
I just wanted to know if any one else is on it and is it not habit forming ?
And will i have a level head so i can keep trying to work .

Hi Tom,

I don't know anything about that drug but I take tylenol # 4 for pain with my r.a. but also I have some back issues too. I take methotrexate, prednisone specifically for r.a.

The tylenol # 4 doesn't make me buzzed at all. It is effective for my pain and I am able to work.

maybe it,s just me but the tylenol 3 just makes me to dizzy and spacey . was driving one time and i forgot i took some what was a scare , I never do that again .
and i was on a motor cycle lol

I take 100 mg of Tramadol three times a day for pain, along w/Soma at night. When I am flaring, I take Soma during the day. Celebrex and prednisone help w/the pain some too. I take Orencia, Prednisone, MTX, Celebrex, bp meds, Lexapro and Lipitor. I cannot do codeine. Makes me sick and "out of it".

I was starting to think it was just me and the way my doctor was talking to me about telling me there should be no problems with it .
I,m going to ask him about the Tramadol.
I can,t take the Celebrex as i had a heart attack last May so they told me to stay away from it .
But the morphine is helping at night so at lest I get a better sleep .

Codine in any form makes me high.
Tramadol does not-so when I need pain meds I take tramadol-my GP scripts it just because I asked her first but my rhuemy certainly would have.
The thing with pain meds, just like all other meds, you just have to find the one or combo that works best for you.

Some thing that i am seeing on here is that there is not many people taking morphine ?
is there some thing i should know about taking it as it does work for me but just wondering if the Tramadol is a better thing for me ?

Morphine is a very powerful opiate with a high potential of addiction & dependence. The addition is said to develop rapidly & is likened to heroine addiction.

100mg of codeine or 17mg of hydrocodone would be the equivalent of 10mg of morphine.

My pain level has never reached a severity that I needed Morphine? That is a pretty strong pain killer, and the only time I ever had it was when I was post-surgery, and I didn't like it, I felt like I couldn't breath for a few seconds..scary! I take a low dose generic version of vicodin, but that's about it. Yes, it is habit forming. If you are needing that strong of a pain medication, maybe talk to you your rheumy about a different medication *cocktail*, maybe a biologic such as Enbrel or Humira.
