blocked salivary glands?

I always get these things on the weekend!   I have a blocked salivary gland on the inside of my upper lip.   I had this once years ago and my dentist just squeezed some puss out of it.  That was way before I had the arthritis.    I take Humira once a week and am just weaning off prednisone.  the whole side of my face is swollen and achey.  I did try to squeeze it but think I irritated it worse.   Just took my humira yesterday and wondering if I should wait till Monday or try to reach my rheumatolgist today to see if I should be on an antibiotic.    Anyone ever have this problem while on the TNF blockers?

I saw my regular dentist and the hygienist squeezed some puss out of whatever it is, took an ex-ray and then the dentist said I should see an oral surgeon to make sure it isn't a cyst.  Another waste of time.  Have to take my cat to the Vet this morning as he did something to his back end and is falling over.   Will call my rheumatologist when I get back and talk about my meds before calling my periodontist to see if he can lance and drain it.

Never get by with just seeing one doctor.  I started on an antibiotic Saturday so hopefully that will help any infection that is going on or brewing.  Will let you know.   Life is way too stressfull

I'm so sorry, I've never heard of such a thing! I hope it isn't painful to have taken care of and all goes well, good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

Alicat, I hope you feel better. Symptoms are weird with us, after I take my weekly does of MTX, that night, I seem to drool more than usual. Not the sexiest thing to have. Sitting there reading or watching tv and realize you are heavily salivating. It goes away for a day or so comes back for a bit then calms down until the next dose.
I recently told my dentist that I have RA and lupus, he and my hygienist were very understanding and did not do that slow creeping away thing people usually do when you tell them. He did a more thorough look around in my mouth and made notes then my hygienist came back and told me about some things to look for. He kind of got onto me for not telling him sooner but understood. They both told me that the meds we take do a number on our mouths along with the diseases and really make sure we brush and floss and use a non alcohol rinse. As you know, about the infections we can get.
Hope you heal without any more problems.

Alicat, I am with you on the meds! LOL.... It's hard to find one without side effects. I have a very dry mouth and they thought at one time I had Sjogrens and still test me for it every year b/c I have dry mucous membranes (but not eyes). I was on cymbalta at the time I got a clogged salivary duct and it made my dry mouth so much worse, so I got off it.

I hope you get some relief with the antibiotics soon.
