Hi all. I just jumped straight in to the posts when I joined about a month ago so I thought I had better introduce myself properly. I am a lady in my middle years, married with 1 grown up daughter. I have had to give up work because of RA and the difficulty I had in finding a treatment that worked for me. I have been a Software Engineer and an Art Teacher at different stages of my life. I was diagnosed with RA in March 2012. I also have Type II Diabetes, IBS, Sleep Apnoea, Anaphalactic Shock and high blood pressure. I have been treated previously, unsuccessfully, for RA with Sulfasalazine, Enbrel and Ro-Actemra. I am currently being treated with Orencia (Abattacept), Methotrexate, Clonfolic and Prednislone. I am attempting to taper off Prednislone because it is playing havoc with my diabetes and am at 5mgs. I have been quite down recently and have found this forum to be of great help. Thanks, Neenaa.

I'm new to this site also, its nice to meet you Neenaa sorry to hear your struggles with RA & what comes with it. I'm also a stay home mom & was looking to relate with people who's in the same or similar conditions & learn more about what's going on in my body. Altho its sad to see so many that fighting this, I'm so glad to have found some place to talk with others who really can relate.

Hi small town mom,
I was thinking and of you and the other newbies today. I started a 6 week course called ‘Living Well with Arthritis’ in a local community centre this morning. It is an Arthritis Self-Management Programme. It was developed in Stanford University in the USA. It runs 1 morning a week for 2 ½ hours. I found it uplifting and helpful even though I've only done 1 class. Maybe something like that might be available in your area. I had to book my place a few months in advance. It was good to speak to people experiencing similar issues to my own. But more importantly it helps in a practical way by encouraging us to set small goals and commit each week to achieving a step along the way to feeling better about our life. I live in a city so there are more facilities available to me but maybe there might be something similar available in your area of the world. Hopefully the Arthritis Foundation in USA sponsors courses in the same way Arthritis Ireland does. Hope today is going well for you. Neena
