Any advice in Sydney, Australia?

Hi All,

I'm new to the forums, and new to RA.

As a first stop, I'm trying to find a good rheumatologist in Sydney, Australia. There are a few local groups and forums, but all the forums are sadly disused, even for the foremost local charity/research sites - literally only one post in Arthritis NSW's online forum (sadly only evident after I paid the $40 membership).

Hence I was wondering if there are any Aussies who can recommend forums, groups, and a rheumatologist, in Sydney.

as for Rheumatologists if you are in Sydney I was recommended ;

Professor Nicholas Manolios or Dr ming Wei lin

Personally I see Dr Marc Toh He Consults in Newcastle and Comes up to Orange and Central west where I see him

Yes there are a Few Aussies here

 it is Good also to get the Overseas insights some have newer drugs or info that helps

 and I can suggest them to my Dr

after All Pain is Universal

Hi, I am new to forums too & Actually don't have RA, but PMR (similar). I have found a wonderful rheumy in sydney - Brookvale near Manly. His name is Irwin Lim :99384433. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He is very thorough and explains everything to me clearly, from treatment to tests I need to have etc etc. he is closely monitoring my progress. He works for BJC Health and they have a good website you can google. Hope this helps!

Just found this site, Looking for some fellow Aussies going through the same thing, Does anyone know of any Aussie RA chat, groups?
I'm from the mid north coast, I figure it might be worth talking to people who are living with the same disease.

Hi, I am in Sydney and see Professor Les Barnsley at a public clinic at Concord Hospital, and he also has private rooms at Concord Medical Centre. He is an Associate Professor of Rheumatology at Sydney University and knows his stuff. I don't have RA, I have Ankylosing Spondylitis but he treats all types of Arthritis.

I don't know of any forums other than this one, but would love to find one. Maybe we can start our own support group - I've been looking for one but there's not much around.

I'm in Sydney too, I see Dr Jan Vaile through her rooms at RPA 95504822. I absolutely love her, she is so enthusiastic, always listens and is very comforting. Times I've ended in hospital sometimes with unrelated conditions, she always drops in to see me. Very caring.
Can't recommend her enough.

ps. This is a great place to get information and whinge and moan when need be.
I also did an empowerment course through RPA for people living wth RA. I think they said they run through Royal North Shore too. But that was brilliant there is a rheumatoid clinic at the hospital they may have more information,
I have met up with fellow sufferers from this forum on occassions too.
