My doctor has prescribed prednidone. 30 mg for three days. Then 20 etc...
I have heard so many people say it is like a miracle...but I have some remaining pain. And at night the stuff seems to kinda wear off and the swelling returns. I am only on day three but is this normal? I thought I would be dancing!?
So is this normal for a person to take days to see results...things are getting better but I guess my expectations were not accurate?

Hi, when I was extremely flared up I was on 60 mg to get things under control. For me 30 mg didn't do much either.
My doctor increased my dosage and things got better. However, when I began tapering down I had bad flares. This is how I ended up being on prednisone for the last year. I am finally down to 3 mg day now and hopefully I will be off it all together in a few months.
I hope you feel better and don't end up taking prednisone every day.

Call your doctor. He/she may want to change the dose.
I hope you feel better soon. RA is awful, but this board is wonderful. I hope you stick around.

I am scared that maybe they are wrong and it is not r.a ...which would be great, it what in the world would it be then!!!!! My hands have been hurting for over a year. I thought the prednisone would be a defining treatment. I hope this confusion will go away!

I'm sorry you're scared. ((gentle hugs))
My primary put me on 40 mg/day of prednisone when this all started. I agree with Don, 30 mg/day just might not be enough to take care of your inflammation.
Have you researched Lyme disease? I don't know much about
it, but I know two people that were diagnosed (incorrectly) with Lyme disease before getting their RA diagnosis so the symptoms must be similar.
Take care and try to stay calm.

One thing to keep in mind with RA and that is that treatment is very individual. A Rx that works for one person may have no effect on another. Unfortunately this is the way it goes with treatment. You may need to try several medications or combinations of medications before you find one that is effective. It takes time.
I hope that you can have some peace in your heart and calmness and soundness of mind. It can be very overwhelming especially when one Is newly diagnosed so hang in there, follow your doctors orders because RA can be very crippling if left untreated and ask the board any questions you have. We have all been there with the uncertainty and wondering. Take care and I hope that you feel better soon. If you are not feeling better call your doctor and get back in to see them.

I too take prednisone 20 mg. a day. Couldn't make it without it right now. I was only on 2.5 mg but my Orencia injections quit working and I have been in awful pain and horrible fatigue. So that is why my dosage got jacked up. My doctor told me I could go on up to 40 mg but I chose to try and tough it out as its so hard to wean down off of it. I took my first infusion of rituxan yesterday and it has already made a big difference in my feelings. I hope that they get you fixed up soon. I am thankful for this board and the folks in it. You will find that they are some awesome folks and its so good to be able to talk to them and the different journeys they have been on. Many good drugs out there to help us all cope with this dreaded disease. Praying for better days ahead for you all
Hugs

For a bad flare you can get infusions of cortisone or prednisone equivalents and they can give you huge amounts over 3 days like 3 grams instead of mg. You go in incapable of walking and come out dancing down the corridors!!!
Probably not the best fo you though. I've only had it once when I was in a total mess, literally all major joints had flared and I was incapable of even holding anything, couldn't bend my fingers or straighten my legs, so ended up in hospital. ANyway 3 days later I felt incredible.
So it may be you need a larger dose of prednisone to hit it on the head.
