New to Methotrexate.

Is 17.5 mg per week a bit high to start? I'm getting ready to start MTX for the first time and now I'm a little nervous about the dosage. I've heard of starting a bit lower and then going up after that. I've had RA since 2007 and the Rhemy thinks the disease is getting a bit more active. I have some swelling in my fingers and ankles. My feet look a bit bad around my toes.

Story nice to meet you, so very sorry your struggling with RA. We have older threads on here in regards to methotrexate, it's a very scary medication, oh course. I was very afraid to try it and I think your dose is a good starting point for RA. It's not too bad and it's done once a week. If you have problems or concerns write them down and take it with you to your next appointment or ask to talk to the doctor nurse for further help.
I was on the injection form of mtx and I was started slowly as I do have medication intolerances issues...You've had RA a long time now and that's probably one of the reasons why your doctor wants to be more aggressive in your treatment. Sometimes it takes a more aggression to go into remission and then you may be able to reduce your dose. But work with your doctor also write down all your questions and concerns so that they can get taken care of at your appointments...
