Why am I on Both MTX and Remicade?

Reading many post and seeing many people are just on MTX alone. So why am on Remicade infusions also and not just MTX? I was never given the change to only be on one thing,it was just you need to take this and have this. Does just one workl? I asked her to get me off the MTX and she said they have to work together so now I'm taking only .2 cc shot's a week down from .7cc a week. Just wondering is the infusion's nessariary or can I get by with just MTX??

Was only told I had RA never heard what the lab numbers were. I had alot of swelling when I saw her and was told I was had high lab results. Wanted off MTX because makes me feel awful for days and then with the infusions I feel sick, chills, mean,don't like who I am for days.
But then the pain comes weeks later I sit and wonder what is worst. I guess in my mind I just don't want this RA and think it will just go away. My son just asked me why are they giving you chemo if you have RA isn't that for cancer? So I'm questioning that also. How and when do they know when you are in remission? I had hep B years ago and so they ck me with blood work for that to see if I become active again. I also had pneumonia three times in the last 10 years and had it 4 years ago and was septic. I also had a heart attack two years ago,so thinking all this chemo is putting me at a hight rick. Isn't it? I really want that edit button Chartreux!!! lol Can't believe this is happening to me,feel I have been through enough. Then I get the well my sister has RA and is not taking anything,or call so and so she has RA and she get's stiff hands but she is not on chemo or meds. Hard to explain to people that I hurt so bad my whole body is effected and I swell feel like I'm on fire. Not sure if there are different forms of RA or what to say to them. They look at me like I'm over reacting with the remark" so what we all hurt." I was a young 61 year old and looked like I was in my 40's ,now feel 80 and look like I'm 70 ! :(

Hi I'm a newbie, I could not take Methotrexate. It made me violently ill. I just started remicade 2 weeks ago. Am getting second infusion now. Just wondering will it work without the Methotrexate? And how long before it starts working. I am so miserable. I want my life back. But I'm afraid that ship has sailed!

again to the original poster, methotrexate has been used for years by many and it's actually somewhat safer than the other medication your taking and it is in lower amounts than cancer patients so don't be worried there it's usually the first round medication to try, again it has been used for years for RA treatment. Hope this help with your questions if not then maybe seek out a second opinion with another RA doctor...I was also very scared of this medication when I was placed on it in 2009. it is scary because of it use for cancer, but it has been used for RA.
Also, heart conditions can be brought on by the RA and not neccessarily the medications, RA can affect other organs such as the heart and lungs ect... Maybe go to the national RA website for more info...
Once your more stable and better understanding on your meds you will find you can have a life...just a life with medications that's all, you can have a life. Many young people take medications and you wouldn't even know it. I've been on asthma meds for years now and it's just in your view that you think you can't, but you can...okay...vent away anytime you need to so many of us understand
