I was just diagnosed with RA and got a steroid shot in my butt. Supposed to work within a week. Any experiences out there?

Dear WH, welcome to HW! I have had steroid shots directly into the joint, shoulder and wrist...ouch! But it worked immediately for the pain. I would not do it again, though, unless doc insisted. As couchtater said, they wear off, some sooner than later. Tell us more about you dx and symptoms. Have you seen a rheumatologist? Good luck and stick around. You can get some good information here as you move forward in coping with this crappy disease.

I'm confused on why they shot you where they shot you. However I get them all the time they are a life saver. I get them in my ankles and hip and knees ( only allowd two at a time ... Awe shucks ) when they wear off I'm in hell limping and moaning with every step I take. But if you can get them to hit the two most painful joints you will feel better and lol find that other joints hurt too just that the other ones hurt so bad you didn't notice!

Ps the ankle joint is the most painful place to get a shot but it's worth it because you have intense pain a few minutes and about 6 weeks of relief ( for me anyway)

My Dr. gave me the Steroid shot in the tush because I had swelling in both knees and both ankles and hurt pretty much all over. I have to say the shot is working well - into my second week - but my ankles still get swollen a bit at night. Other than that I have tons of energy and no pain. Yay for now :)
