Methotrexate question

Recently officially dx’ed with RA. Took my first dose of methotrexate on Saturday. Both my rheumatologist and pharmacist told me that the side effects hit the next day. They told me nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy. So far I had a bit of an unsettled tummy, not nauseous just blah. Two quick dizzy spells yesterday. Just seconds really.

I am taking folic acid. And my dosage of methotrexate is four pills totaling 10mg. Will this be my “normal” on this med or is it a cumulative effect. The longer you take it the more side effects?

I am ecstatic that I didn’t get hammered yesterday, but I don’t want to count on same reaction each time and get blindsided one day when out with the kids.

Hello Sarah, I experienced that initially Methotrexate did not cause much nausea & unsettled tummy.

After about a few months in, it was my experience that the nausea increased, along with an upset tummy mostly on the day of and day after taking this medication. And the yucky feeling continues at my end...

Thanks everyone. So far I am 2 doses in and no nausea or vomiting. I always have diarrhea so...... getting a barium enema for that soon. Fun.

One thing I have noticed is that I am more tired than normal. And fatigue easier. Really hoping that evens out down the road.

Haven’t seen any effects on my hands yet, but it’s early days.
