Vectra D blood test

Has anyone had a vectra d blood test ordered? My rheumatologist loves this test especially for RA. I have seronegative ra and chronic pain. He thought my suffering right now is from the chronic pain. My results came back. Everything was normal except for a low red blood count. My vectra d results said normal range then said high. My rheumatologist is out of town having surgery and has not called to go over the results. The pain has been bad especially with the rain and humidity. Has anyone had high results from this test? Does it mean my pain right now is from the ra? I am on plaquenil and leufonimide as well as amitriptyline. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lisa, I have not seen anyone recently post about the Vectra D test. From what I understand it is used to test disease activity in patients on DMARDS & biologics. Another tool in the toolbox for RA patients. Let us know what your dr says once you get your results back.

Thanks Susie. My rheumatologist is out having surgery. They told me 2 weeks until he may be able to read the results and get back to me. From what I have been reading, my results show high disease activity, which would explain how much pain I am in. The waiting is always the hardest part.

I too have seronegative RA
Had a very severe presentation which lasted for 3 months and then MTX and 40 mgs prednisone with a year and a half taper knocked it back to a manageable disease and I have been able to reduce my med to Plaquenil and can now enjoy cocktails! Flares are mild and short. Lost my original RD due to retirement and he lost my early records.....dreaded starting with a new dr. - you know how it is-you're never in a flare during appointment time and your bloodwork betrays your day to day discomfort. First visit he was on the fence I think. Did seem interested in pictures of flare swells in hands and feet....bloodwork again betrayed me but the Vectra DA I never had before scored me at 39. I felt so validated.

Thanks. I am still waiting for my rheumatologist to return and go over my results. My feet have been swollen for weeks now. I also am in pain and exhausted. My appointment is in November. I can't wait!

Yikes
Just got a letter from my insurance saying the Vectra DA is not covered and pretty much dismissed it as any kind of RA tool. Sighhhh both with feeling like my score validated by daily pain that no one can see and the blood work that betrays me...wonder how much it cost.

Oh no. I hear the test is expensive. I am on the same boat with all my blood work being normal. This was my second vectra. The first one was low. This one was 45 and it says high. This whole process sucks.

Holy Crap I called my insurance company and they said this is an experimental test with no proven value and the bill is $989.00!
I just found out my company is closing and I'm out of a job

That is insane! My rheumatologist swears by it. So far my insurance company covers.

Never heard of it. Does it help to diagnose RA or tell if you are having a flare?

It's a test to measure the inflammation in your body. It is mostly used to determine how active RA is

Thank you all for posting! I am seeing my dr. Wed. and asking for this test. Let's see what happens. And I cannot pay that much for one test. There is something wrong with me but I sure would love a "true" diagnosis.

I'm going to contact my dr. to see if he used the wrong diagnostic code and see if he'll submit an appeal
He did not act like it was an experimental test when he suggested it and his office staff seems incompetant
Just so tired of taking so many things...can't anything go smooth?

I would definitely get him to resubmit it. From what I have been reading the test isn't widely used but has been around for a while.

I too am seronegative (sp) lol. I have had the Vectra D test done. It is very expensive. However they have a form you can fill out to help pay the test. I had bcbs and it was with a very good company and they paid very well but they would not pay for that test. Last time I had it done my score was 69. None of the meds my rheumy has tried is working very long on me. We are having a time. Sure wish I had a piece of my life back. Been so long since I have had a day without fatigue and weakness. Anyway if your Ins doesn’t pay be sure to ask them for the form to fill out. Hugs to you all
