What have your doctors told you about getting the flu shot? I got it last year and was sick almost all winter. I really don't want to get sick again. Thabks!

Hi Lisabeans!
I was on MTX and now starting Humira. I was told by my PCP that anyone on a drug that lowers their immune system should not take a "live" vaccine but inert ones were okay. I know this probably does not help; however, it made me rethink the whole vaccine route and I wanted to share. So I declined the flu shot and the rest of the ones they suggest when you turn 65. I believe they are good and serve a purpose; however, just personally did not want to chance it.
Not a doctor, lol, just my humble opinion. Best of luck to you fellow traveler on the road to wellness.

Lisa, I have had the flu shot while on both Remicade & Humira, plus Imuran with both. My drs insisted I get the flu shot. The only stipulation was no "live vaccine shots". I have never had a problem either. What I do is take extra strength Tylenol the first 24 hours after the shot. My former boss had colon cancer & after surgery he was on chemo. The flu season hit just as he started chemo & his oncologist insisted he take the flu shot & to take the Tylenol for 24 hours.

My pcp, pulmonary dr & gi all have told me, people that get sick from the shot are already coming down with something & they just do not know it at the time.

I had the flu shot this past October, and I have had both Shingrex vaccines. My mom had psoriatic arthritis, and she had shingles several times and was in such pain. If I can avoid shingles, and see my kids and granddaughter because hopefully I am protected from their germs, it is so worth it.

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to post an update. I am now on Humira. My last Dr. visit I received pneumonia and flu vaccine. I know that they are not supposed to make you sick. I live with the polio vaccine badge. After I received them I had the worst cold I have ever had which turned into lingering bronchitis. My back and sternum area are still painful. Easy to blame the vaccines; however, like straydog said I was already probably coming down with something.
What I really would like to take is the Shingrex vaccine. However, because it is a live vaccine it is out of the question at this time.
