Does anyone take Mobic?

Hi,

I'm normally on the anxiety board, but this morning I went to the doctor with my husband, and he has just been diagnosed with osteo-arthritis in his hips (he went to an orthopaedic specialist). He is going to have an MRI next week, and will be set up with a rheumatologist as soon as he is available. The doctor gave him Mobic (8 days of samples, and also a prescription). I looked on this forum a bit, but didn't see any mention of this med. He doesn't take any meds, and he took the first pill today. I was just wondering if anyone here takes this, and am hoping for any good or bad feedback about the drug.

Hey Bear... a lot of us here on the site have been on Mobic or are still currently taking it for break-through pain... I have Psoriatic Arthritis and I was on Mobic for about 2 months, it unfortunately didn't do much for me.. I did a lot better on Feldene... I am on Enbrel for my PA, but I still occasionally take Mobic or Feldene for those days where the Enbrel just isn't cutting it... Mobic is a NSAID, so please make sure your hubby doesn't mix it with Aleve or Motrin... plus have him take it with food so it won't upset his stomach... Let us know how he does on it... I used to take that and on a good day found it useless. NSAIDs in general are not all they're cracked up to be IMO. Maybe it will work better for your husband. Good luck!

Thanks also for the advice about eating first, and he doesn't take any other headache pills so I guess that's ok. He hasn't felt any results yet, but it is just his first day on it. I did look on the website for Mobic, and it said 7.5 is the normal dose, but the doc gave him 15's. That worries me a bit. Also, if anyone had any side effects or anything bad, I would appreciate the info. When I read those websites, I get worried.... Also, he likes beer, but is afraid to have any with the med. Is that a big no-no? Thanks for any help or advice :)

Hey Bear... 15's are ok.. I was on those.. just be mindful of his stomach.. they can eat away at you if you take them on an empty stomach.. some people get nauseous from it too... I was on 15's and I was fine, but I used to have an iron gut... anyways.. as with all medications, when you mix it with alcohol, you need to be mindful of what happens.. I drank my fair share of beer while on Mobic, but everyone is different... A co-worker of mine was on Mobic and it made him so sleepy he couldn't stand it..... I would just keep an eye on him and see how he does.... I would tell him to go slow and see how he fairs with it... I didn't have any side effects on Mobic, actually, like Dave, it didn't do much for me at all.. it may have decreased some of the swelling, but it didn't get rid of any of the pain, until I started using Enbrel.... Hi Bear,

I took Mobic for a couple of months a while ago.  Honestly, it did nothing for me at all except upset my GI system.  Relafen and Voltaren upset my GI system as well, but they worked great on the inflammation.  Of course, NSAID therapy is so individual for everyone.  What didn't work for me may very well work for your husband.  The only way to know for sure is to try.

Thanks for your input. So far, I'm not really sure if the med is doing anything or not... he's not a complainer.... he has been taking it after eating. I'm thinking after he gets the MRI and sees the rheumatologist, we will know more and they might even change the meds... He was already feeling better by the time we went to the doc, so the fact that he can actually walk now probably has nothing to do with the medicine. I guess we will see what happens. Thanks again.

Hi,I hope that mobic helps your hubby.I was put on Mobic but could not handle it because I have crohns and it just did not set well.I will say how ever thoe my ex-mother-in-law has been on this for about two years and she said it has worked for her really well.Please do continue to post on how your hubby is doing on it.

I have taken Mobic for over a year. It worked quite well for many months. Unfortunatly I developed an allergic reaction to it and my pain in the back increased considerably. It was several weeks until I pin pointed the Mobic as the cause. After a couple of week of no MObic I am feeling better. Still in pain but not the hot seering pain in the back.
