dear members, i am new on HW.let me introduce myself: i am 36 yo male.and i have  got traumatic ankel that in an car accident when i was 3 yo. i am social,  play tennis. now a days i have got pain in the ankle.and my mobility is less comparing last year. i used to play tennis more than two hour now hardly one hour.when i play it i leave the court in pain.i got the doc who told me nothing left for the cure except ankle fusion.doc says when the pain is unbearable fusion only way out. itake some pain killers in fact during the day i take 3-4 tabkets to stop the pain.

to sum up, i will be great if some of you share the experince and guide me where i go..

as far as i follow from the net , there is not much devıolepment in the arthiritis pain relief.

i have seen three stage i will be through.

first unbearable pain term, second fused ankel begining term and mobility with fused ankle and last medical problems may be revised fusion or correct.

please, share your thoughts experince with me .

Hey ells - Welcome to Healing Well... I just got your email, sorry it has taken me so long to welcome you/write you back... what pain meds are you on? Are you on anything for the arthritis? Have you been diagnosed with arthritis? Do you have pain/limited mobility in any other joints? Hang in there, and keep posted, we'll get you taken care of!

welcome to HealingWell!  so very glad you found this site...and from so far away around the world!  fantastic!

it might well be that the arthritis is getting worse on the ankle from that car accident.

for medications, there are Mobic; Celebrex; Vioxx; Arthotec.  those are some that help control pain & inflammation.  i do not know what they might be called in your country as names vary country to country.

a few folks here HAVE had ankle fusion with SUCCESS!  i do hope they find your letter & respond to you.

do you get any relief from heating pads, ice & elevation?  there are Lidoderm patches by prescription that you apply to the effected area & it provides pain relief as well.  the pain meds you take now...are you happy with them? do they work to your content?

you are very nice friends responsed immeaditely.
let me tell you that my right ankle has limited mobility. some bones touch each other and it hurts.i use minoset which is a type of tylenol arthiritis.i take it often a day.the mobilty get less pain gets more.
x-ray results are just disaster.also, my right leg is thinner than left one.i get steam bath that gets tired me easly and i get relief.i never use ice staff or pads.i find hard climing stairs because the ankle movement rigit that slows me at the stairs.
looking forward to know experienced fellows shares.
by the way istanbul where i live is very rainy right now.

Hi Ells!!!! I am also having a subtalar fusion on the 17th. You can see my post on the chronic pain forum. I had a dirt bike accident where I crushed my heel and now suffer from arthritis, tarsal tunnel, nerve pain and a number of other things. You can actually hear my bones and joints grind on each other. (Nice huh) It has been two years since the injury, I was only casted for 3 months when it happened. Dumb, poor me did not see a foot specialist.....big mistake, but I did not have health insurance at the time. So now I found the shizzzzit of a doctor here in San Antonio & I am so happy with him. He knew exactly what I was talking about the second he started the exam. He is also the asst professor at UT Health Sciences and he is really just great. I can't say enough about him. Anyways, it's a long recovery and its not a fun one from what I have read and heard. There is a site on yahoo groups called "ankle fusion" I can't provide the site but you can email me and I can hook you up with some places I go for education on my foot. you are not alone, although you probably feel like it. It's nice to hear your still active, I wish I could be that way. My ankle has deteriated so bad that it's just nice to wake up and be able to put both feet on the ground and be able to walk that day. Sometimes it just locks up and won't pop back out, sometimes the nerves act up, sometimes it just swells up...so on and so on...my email should be in my profile, if not it is mcstoldal  AT yahoo DOT com....anytime!!!!

thank you for sharing what you go through with the ankle & ankle fusion with Ersel.

i would like to keep this thread up top so anyone who has this issue with ankle/ankle fusion, etc....can share there experience and provide support advise to our new friend Ersel in Istanbul!

 

and yes, let us not forget, that no matter how bad things get....we should all be very grateful for even the smallest of things we CAN do...even if it is putting our feet on the floor in the morning.

Hey Erin,

Thanks for taking notice of the unusual aspect of having foot/ankle fusion. I looked on line for places to talk with others about this and it really took a while. I found HW and that has helped very much. I can tell you that having a good sense of humor has sure help along the way. I rely on it EVERYDAY!! I am getting ready for a serious operation and I am happy about it!! WTH is wrong with me???? I should be scared, well I am, but I just think about the benefits in the end. I will be non weight baring for 10-10 weeks. That sucks. I am buying special equipment just to take a shower and go potty! I'm only 35...Well I gues I could keep that stuff around until I need it again....Oncew again thank you,

cool  hey mel what's up!

oh i agree, without humor? shoot...i'd be GONE.  i believe, folks with severe chronic progressive illnesses and even minor disabilites that interfere with daily life...one's mindset & funny bone gets ya through so so much.

i am so happy for you too!  heck, i would be too!  i WISH someone would give me a knee replacement. but @ 25? yeah right! i would get laughed straight out of that office.  when i was in the hospital in august for 5 days, i had a surgeon consult in the event i needed abdominal surgery.  i tried to convince em' to do a knee replacement!  tongue he said, "I don't know how to do that one!"  so i said, "Get out the text book man! Experiment!" tongue

truly, BEST WISHES.  i wish you nothing but the best with the surgery.  you're prepared, you know what to expect. afterwards? the rest will come day by day.  and don't worry...you'll get last second jitters when they're wheelin' ya into the OR. tongue

really stinks when we're hit with this young eh? sometimes i feel a bit robbed, like so many of my friends just fly past me & i feel "stuck" or "trapped" rather.

but again...we're proud of what we have accomplished & the small things we CAN do.

you're a trooper!  be well. take care.

Had my pro op yesterday....No problem! Infact this is a walk in the park (pun intended) compared to some of the stuff I have read here. It only took 5 hours!!! Just a lot of running back and forth from the lab and hospital. I am having sugery at a teaching hospital so they are not used to patients with insurance lol!!! She was really shocked when I presented the ins card. I asked if I could have the VIP suite with that. :-) It was pretty funny, I do feel and know first hand what it is like to be without ins. Thats how my foot degressed to begin with ..... LACK OF CARE!!! well its now 15 days to F day...I will be checking in here and there!! Take care all,

u know i was alone out there till i see HW .
and the yahoo group on ankle fusion.
that totaly changed my thoughts of fusion.
yes, i will survive after the fusion.
do see things that will not as used to before.
on the other hand it is a chance to see better off than before.
things better.people lloveable.
really this week helped me much through this.
my mood much more motivated.

ells so glad to hear HW is helping you. it is a terrible feeling being lost and not feeling well. we all understand on this site as we all are going through simulair situations. how is the weather in istanbul? soes it effect your joints? cold and rainy here, terrible on my joints. take care yalinda

the weather is rainy snowy in istanbul.

i am snow man..

i love  cold weather.

the scenery of canadian north is my favorite place.

i have seen movie jermy  johansob actorred by robert redford that shot in the snow from the begining to end put me through snow pictures with very  nice feelings.

hi ells, no i have never been to your part of the world. i have traveled many of the states and been to germany and france (only border line of france and germany.) my next dream trip would be austria as that is where my father was from, and i would love to find my family heritage in vienna. unfortunately everything takes money, and i am not wealthy. but that is the great part of the internet, photos seen from around the world! something as a child i could only get from a text book. we have alot of snow here but i do not enjopy it, never did. and now i seem to have pain in my joints greater with the damp coldness. thanks for sharing about yourself. keep us posted! yalinda

photos on line of nisantasi are great, busy city with many vendors and shops. flowers in spring and summer photos look wonderful and plenty selling on sidewalks.
