I just got the strangest call from my primary?

My primary called, and she sounded almost angry with me because she got the request from the ID doctor I called the other day to send over my records. She said, verbatim, "How did we get from point A to point B?" I told her that my rheumy had wanted me to consult with an Infectious Disease doc, but that my referral had to come from her. She acted very pissy about the whole thing. I told her I hadn't formally decided yet to go through with visiting an ID doctor, but the office insisted on getting my records BEFORE scheduling an appointment. I told her I would call her back when I decided what I wanted to do. She said if I chose to go through with it, then I better get my rheumy to send over his records since he was the one who suggested the IDer. When I got off the phone, I was thinking, jeez, what did I do to get her goat? Then I got really angry--who the heck is she anyway? If I had a PPO, like the one I switched to and goes into effect the first of the new year, I wouldn't need a referral from her anyway. I resent having to get "permission" to see a specialist to begin with. I almost backed out, but I think I'm going to have her send over my records, just to tick her off :)

YOU DO IT!!!!!!!! those records are YOURS! legally they are yours. i suspect, that if she got pissy...she might be afraid of lawsuit. not too many times are complete medical records requested and when they are, it's usually for a lawsuit...so she might have been on the defensive. that? or she's just whacky.
nevertheless...if the ID wants em'...then the ID's office should be dealing with your doc; putting a pt under stress in that scenario is not good. so, if you feel "in the middle" it couldn't hurt to ask the ID staff to correspond or write a request for the records (or reason why).
a PCP has the responsibility of doing this duty of handing over med records! i really don't see why she'd make a deal of it! unless there's something in there she's insecure about.
if it were me? i wouldn't take it personally. it's her problem. you're doing the right thing. and legally you don't have to tell her ANYTHING. any person, any time can request their med records.
hang in there El!!!!!!! one thing after another it seems! please take good care of yourself, times are tough i know.

Wow... sorry you had to deal with that El, but Erin is right.. Those records are yours and if one of your docs, regardless of who they are sends you to someone else, and they need to see your medical history, then she needs to do it... There is no reason to get upset unless she has something to hide? Or doesn't what someone to see something? Becareful el.. let us know what happens.. and YES... go to the IDer and make she they get those records!

I've decided not to go to the Ider right now.  I'm feeling fine; not feeling sick anymore.  I'll wait a while, and then if I feel its necessary, I'll go to the ID that my rheumy suggested.  I just don't feel like dealing with this stuff right now.

In order to send medical records to another Dr.you have to sign a release first.

I would be inclined to "fire" a doctor that wouldn't be comfortable with me seeking a second opinion if the treatment I was receiving from that doctor wasn't working. Don't be bullied by them. ALL physicians should work together for what's best for the patient and if there is one among them that won't, then dump em!

HI El.......I am so sorry that you PC acted like that. It is your body your illness and you are the one incharge. Don't forget the doctors work for you. I had a similar situation. I wanted to go see a Endocronologist for my auto immune thyroid and my Rheumy at the time got cross and said I did not need to. I have a PPO so I went anywhat and I was ill and needed medication. I changed Rheumys and currently I am happy. We need to manage our on medical problems.
