Low dose prednisone and plaquenil

After two years of symptoms, I was diagnosed with RA in December. I am currently taking Prednisone-5mg, Plaquenil-200mg, ZORprin-1600mg-2Xday, Tramadol-50mg-3Xday, and Fosamax plus D.

Before I started with the prednisone, I was having my worst symptoms in my hands/wrists, feet/ankles, and shoulders. At first all my symptoms decreased with the prednisone, except my left shoulder. That was strange, but now after being on the pred for a little more than a month, my symptoms are increasing. I don't have the swelling that I did, but I certainly have the stiffness and pain in the same areas as before. I was hoping the plaquenil would have kicked in by now, but I guess it hasn't.

I don't understand how 5mg of prednisone could have made such a big difference, but I was so happy. Why would my symptoms return like they have?

hi turtles. and welcome. ur name makes me want chocolate and carmel and nuts! yum. and all i can hear is from that movie (brainblock) the voice saying "turtle" in that funy voice. "turtle" sry back to ur post.......i think u may have built a tolerance to the pred? 5 mg is a low dose and more would perhaps help i would ask ur doctor. 5 mg can make a huge difference and 2.5 mg more just a hlf a pill might make a huge diff again but u need to ask ur doctor and tell him or her how it no longer is helping u. once u get a routine with the meds u might even drop or increase to adjust to flares u may be having? sry i didnt post sooner but i missed this post somehow. good luck and welcome. hope to hear how u r doing again~ and hopefully it will be better. :) take care yalinda
