Synvisc Injections??

I'm not sure if this is in the right spot, but I was just told that I have arthritis in my knee, however I also have patella femerol knee syndrome in the same knee, my dr wants to try the above named injections before talking any kind of replacement since I am only 27...anyone had these and if so what was your response to them??

Hey Blue, this is becoming a number 1 thing to try on peeps that have worn their knees out. It gives them a little cush & lubricate. Alot of people are able to buy years doing this ever so often especially if it continues to work for them. Susie

Just wanted to let ya'll know that unfortunately the synvisc did not work for me. I had an MRI, that came back not normal, but pretty much what we thought. My knee cap is slightly off to one side so we're gonna go ahead and do a lateral release......Gotta love being 27 and going in for #3 on Right knee, after already having 3 on left knee....woo hoo!

Synvisc is a type of intra-articular knee injection. Synvisc is considered a treatment or therapy, not a drug. Synvisc is an elastic and viscous substance made from hyaluronan which is found in normal joint fluid. Synvisc is injected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. These injections are approved for the treatment of osteoarthritis of the knee in those who have failed to respond to more conservative therapy. It has been used in treatment since 1970. Synvisc injections are typically given once a week, 7 days apart, over a 15-day period, for a total of three injections. To get the best results, diseased osteoarthritic synovial fluid is typically removed from the knee before the first injection. The currently inject Synvisc into the knee, shoulder and hip. I have had 4 series of Synvisc to my knee. I have also had 7 knee surgeries and that Synvisc saved my knee for 4 years from a total knee replacement. I recently had a total knee replacement.. Take care of that knee. If the Synvisc doesnt help you with the pain, then no harm is done. If it can delay knee surgery then its worth it. Side effects dont often occur, but when they do they can include a rash on your back, calf pain, muscle pain, pain at the injection site, infection from technique. Side effects are rare. My background in nursing is 14 years of chronic pain management, Im a medical malpractice legal nurse consultant. I have the basic 10 years of hospital nursing, worked on the IV team working with intrathecal pumps , PICC lines and central lines. I also spent quite a few years working with severly disabled kids with neurological deficits. Ive been a nurse for 20 years and have been volunteering online in forums like this for 13 years.
I had my total knee replacement at 42 years old. The first surgeon that I saw gave me the "your too young" speach. The next surgeon I went to.. I gave him the story that the first doctor gave me and then I said to him "why should I have to suffer until I get to an age that suits you?" He agreed and did my replacement. These new prosthetics are lasting up to 20 years, but statistically the highest failure rate with total knee replacements happens in the population of people less then 55 years old do to their increased agility. Total knee and hip replacements are among the most successful orthopedic surgeries done...ALTHOUGH, mine was a disaster and I wont do the other knee no matter what happens to it. Some people really do well..and some dont.. and they cant seem to make sense out of it.
I hope that your knee can settle down so that you have a few more years without having to do something drastic. Id give anything to have my knee healthy.

I never cared for working in intensive care..but putting in lines isnt so bad...a skill to master. Ive spent more years having medical problems myself..have had 17 surgeries, a broken arm a broken foot, a grand mal seizure..3 shoulder surgeries, 2 back, 7 knee including a total knee..My past 2 1/2 years have been a nightmare of pain..so I dont feel much like a nurse these days. Working in health forums like this at least gives me some sense of worth. Id be happy to have the pain under control and get back to the life that I once knew. You sure look like you have had your share of aches and pains also. Are you still working? Thanks for that nice welcome.. I look forward to getting to know you also

Waiting for disability can be so frustrating..Do let me give you a bit of information just so that you are aware of it so that you dont get yourself upset.. 75% of people are denied on their initial application. 45% of those people walk away and do not appeal this process. The state does that with the hopes that people will just walk away and not continue to fight the process. So, dont be at all upset if you get denied on your first application. It took me 5 appeals to get approved. I got approved in the 5th year...I finally got a lawyer and it really does benefit people to get a lawyer after their initial application and denial. I wish you the very best and hope that they dont take forever getting you approved. I stayed out of work for many years and went back to school and furthered my nursing education..Once I got approved..I never went back into the hospital and have just done chronic pain managament and legal nurse consulting. Its hard feeling that loss of self worth..when I had a booming career. I am not one to believe that things happen for a reason.. I wont bother you anymore on this thread because I dont want to take the attention off of the person who started this thread. I look forward to knowing you and being in touch.

Good luck with your case. Its so sad that they deny those who need it and then there are those that really dont that get away with bloody murder...The whole system is confusing...
