Craig,
Your story gives me hope! I HAVE heard of several people who struggled with RA for years and then it just went away?????
I'm not kidding, I have heard of people who were miserable with it and then it just went away and now they take nothing.
This makes sense to me b/c my RA hit me like a freight train: one week-fine, next week-miserable!
I've only had a diagnosis of RA since January and all I currently take is methotrexate. I tried sulfasalazine but it made me ILL!
Now it seems my RA is kicking up and so they are trying to get my insurance co. to approve Humira. I have never taken prednisone but I am a teacher and am just feeling rotten, so I'm going to take 5 mg. of prednisone/day until they get the Humira approved.
I used to do 5 spin classes a week and felt really energetic and younger than my years (48). This summer has been a drag b/c I haven't felt like entertaining my children (10 and 12) as I normally do on our summer break.
My response to you is LIVE IN THE NOW! Enjoy going without meds and if you find that you need them again, then thank God that they are there and they worked before.
Having RA is a burden, but I have several friends with cancer, so I feel like I need to count my blessings......
