Anybody else get a very high C-Reactive Number

Mine is over fifty and it's suppose to be less than 5.  It has something to do with inflamation.  Just curious????

Hello, I am new here and a newbie diagnosed with RA in November. I checked my blood work and couldn't find where the norm for C-reactive Protein was 5. My reference range for C-reactive protein is </=0.9 meaning under 0.9 is normal mine was 1.3, the range for the Rheumatoid Factor is <14 (under 14) is normal, mine was 217, the other test was a CCP (cyclic citrullinated peptide) this from what I was told is a test to confirm diagnosis of RA the reference range is <20 (under 20) is normal mine was >60 meaning strong positive. My Rheumy also stated with such a high CCP that my RA is the aggresive erosive type and aggresive treatment is needed to try to slow it down and hopfully prevent some joint damage. I would appreciate any input about these numbers. I am soooooo new at all this it is so overwhelming... I have so many questions so I have been reading post after posts on messages boards about RA just to get some idea what I am dealing with....Sure isn't a very nice disease to have is what I have found!! So any info is helpful to me!

My C-RP was twice the guideline number as was my Sed rate. I've been dx'ed with both psoriatric arthritis and anemia of chrinic disease. I might also have Lupus altough my ANA was negative.

My lab had the same numbers as Polly's.

I have a bad back with 3 levels of bulging discs, 2 levels of spinal stenosis and facet hypertrophy. It is extremely painful and I wear a 100 mcg Fentanyl Patch and take up to four 30 mg Roxicodone a day for breakthrough pain.

Lately I have periods of malaise, fatigue, lost 10 pounds in 3 weeks, loss of appetite, red patches under eye and on bridge of nose, itching, and bloody noses.

Just had a CT scan on chest , abdomen and pelivic on Monday, searching for Lung Cancer, I suppose. No results yet.

Sorry everybody...these are very serious problems.

I just figure mine is very severe osteoarthritis and ibs/c. The docs still don't know how the c-reactive number figures in osteoarthritis and they don't know anything about ibs/c.

There are many sites including labtests online that will discribe reference ranges for c reactive protien. Mine was quite high and my doctor suspected I had an infection but I looked up the range and it was more likely that it was caused by the most active RA flare I have had in eight years. C reactive protien is a test that measures inflamation faster than sed rates it goes up and down faster and allows the doctor to track wether your improving but it isn't selective-anything can make it go up.

wolf? the red patches and bloody nose along with creactive protein does fall within Rheumys field and this one complex needs ruled out in many cases:

Wegener's granulomatosis, polyarteritis, as well as SLE

Ana, Anca, compliment 3 and 4 are labs that are essential for determining the presence or lack of these conditions.

my sed rate is 10 so im negative for RA but they are testing creactive protein as there are a few rare immune deficiency syndromes (circulatory immune) that fall under rheumatology also.
