HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!!!!

bear thank you for the lovely tidings of the new year.  same to you...

Yally! that outdoor game was wicked cool!!!!!! oh it was awesome!  last one was in Canada right?  joe & i watched it yesterday.  awesome.

hmmm....bubbly???? sorry folks but it's MUMS or shall i utter the word??? the big  "C" $$$ "cha ching!"$$$

an annual champagne fillabuster, lol, was cancelled this year...so sad.  over 100 people, each bringing a bag of bubbly libations.  a grand tally of champagne bottles adds up to somewhere around 300.

it is the 1 and only time of year i will have a few glasses...too much sugar, too sweet.

so here's a nice story:

since my nursing career is on hiatus...and my hands are starting to get a little  bit better; we went the other day to stock me up on oils, some new brushes, etc...it might be a very slooooow process, but i'm giving my paintings another go at it.

even if it's only 15 minutes every 3 days, lol...better than nothing.

(i was an art major in college before i switched to bio.)

Moanin everyone,

I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year! It is hard to believe we are now in 2008!

I read that Erin was approved for her SSDI, and was so thankful to hear that! What a relief!

Jody, are you feeling better? I checked into the boards a few times and didn't see any postings from you, and really didn't have the time to write anything, just so busy with classes ending and shuffling kiddos back and forth.

The kids are spending their Christmas break at their dads home, so it has been just my husband and I and he took two weeks off for his Christmas break, and finally went back to work today. This has been the first day that I have had on my own since the 22nd :)

On New Years Eve, my husband and I went to the Zoo, they had Christmas lights etc and it was fun but the temp was getting close to zero with the wind chill and as I walked, I began having this pain in my hips and ligament area and it was so awful that by the time we left, I could hardly make it to the car. I have heard people say that with RA and arthritis in general the cold weather makes them hurt and I was having a bit of a flare with the cold, but I have never in the entire time I have had RA hurt or been so close to not being able to to walk because of the pain. My hips felt almost frozen with it..
Anyone else have this with the cold weather????

Nothing else to report, just waiting for the children to return on Saturday. Oh and I am ready for Spring!

moanin everyone! hope all is going well for everyone : ) me i seem to have caught a cold - bad sore throat- kissing all those fools on the new year ...... ugh!......... hope it isnt anything serious as the operation is like T minus 19 days. didnt sleep much last night but off to the follies again today. going into snow country .......

ducky thanks for saving our moanin thread! i guess you are a friendly police person! teehee.

erin glad you watched our game! right in my home town. kids came home no frostbite - thank goodness- but chilled or frozen to the bone! felt like a campbells soup commercial was playing in my home.....
it was a hard loss but then again what else is new! we know how to lose and make it hurt!

mom lets ring in spring together! it is freezing here high 19 F but............ drumroll please............ it is expected high in the fifties by the weekend and early next week!!!!!! hello florida! sorry jody but if i can i will steal your heat and sun : p no one is safe .........

  confused EEEKS!  confused It's 9 degrees right now here in Pompton Plains! High winds too. Good thing I don't have to travel to the trash dump/garage thang across the street...I may blow away.
SoberBear (LOL) I hope the money situation regarding the house is still a go-go.
Oh, in the film "AMELIE" Bear...what is milled wine? Is it port? Not that I'm saying you've seen the film, maybe you have, it's a good one...but I've never heard of milled wine (taken with spice cookies!).
And since we've been on the booze topic, lol...
I spent a lot of time in Europe (Italy, England, France) but never had a sit down with milled wine & spice cookies.

My hunny loved your educational on Boxing Day especially about the horse racing (as he is a racing afficionado...owns throroughbreds...4 I think?) {They race, some were even in stakes races} But right now they're retired for the winter down in Florida. In Boca...nah just kiddin'.

Oy...I got to work on a piece last night for about 1/2 hour and I really did a number on my shoulder. OUCH...so even LEISURE work is almost impossible. Must say...it's turmed out quite nice...starting the oils today. It's a painting of 2007 Breeder's Cup...a memorandum to it as it took place in NJ.
Thanks mom23 for the congrats...it is a heavy burden lifted.

Yalinda....Ouch a sore throat!! I'm sorry to hear you are sick, but had to laugh at the kissing of fools on New Years :) It has been a long cold winter and it is ONLY January....I am counting the months until Spring. I feel for Erin who said it is 9 degrees....SHIVER!!!!! However, I think we are going to get above freezing today.

I think hubby and I must be fuddy duddies since we were home by 9:30 pm on New Years Eve and didn't have anything to drink..not even a glass of wine. A few weeks ago my now 14 year old son decided he would take part in drinking some rum and coke that another boy brought to school (in science class) and ended up suspended for a week and will now end up in a diversion program for first time offenders in an alcohol program with 24 hours of community service. So on New Years Eve, I found myself ordering a glass of iced tea....

Oh..no warmth in Florida either!!  Only in the 20's this morning, below freezing again tonight they say....there is ice on the oranges. Yally, your game made it on good Morning America yesterday..did you see it?  They showed the stadium and talked a bit about the game, pretty cool. How you feeling?  Is your girl still home? Hey Mom..Happy New Year to you!  You know, the whole cold thing really hit me when we were in Wisconsin over Thanksgiving, I just couldn't handle it, my hips were awful.  Oh the joys of teenage boys...you poor thing...I'm so sorry! Have really missed your posts, glad you stop in now and again..How's school?  Don't know how you keep up that schedule you have.  Me?  Still fighting the never-ending sinus infection..round three of an antibiotic, and have had to hold off on some of my meds..so it's starting to catch up a bit, hoping this one knocks the junk out once and for all. I got to take some time off over the holidays, but the kids are all back now, and boy are they making me pay for my time off!  Doesn't help much that we are house-bound due to the cold, they love to get outside and play a bit.Bear, maybe I should think about working with adults instead lol.  Erin..how cool that you're painting...wish we could see your work.  But I just think it's wonderful that you CAN!! I'm so happy that you're hands are hurting you that much less. How are you, Joan? Staying warm, too?  Boo, how are things your way?

Well, must run, the kids want to go see a movie, kind of cold out there, but these invites don't come around too often, so better take advantage!

hi jody...it has been about 7 degrees or so today, not that unusual for us. I am wearing my BEAUTIFUL THRIFT SHOP pajamas and my brand new k-mart socks. Been too lazy to make a herbal tea and am not supposed to have much before sleeping because of the GERD (reflux). of course citrus is gonna hit the roof but apples are very pricey here too....what else is new? Have to leave with a minimum of $80 to gas up my neon for a peon and buy some groceries.

realized I would really have to learn everything about shingles myself so went to the library and ordered from the computer the only two books we have on the subject locally. typed up the highlights of my shingles story...I called it "pain" today to bring to the doc in case he can read.

created a blog today on our local newspaper. will be submitting stuff on my own writing for the arts listing in our local newspaper, did some reading but very little housework.

erin...just go slow and before you know it...you will have a lovely painting. o erin I love to wine myself...champagne is better than milk and cookies and that's saying a lot.

i got in shy of 40 min of my oil. This morning? Aaaaaaaaah. day off today i think.

Eri - the term is MULLED wine not milled wine and the action of mulling the wine is traditionally done by plunging a red hot poker into the mix of wine and herbs and spices after mixing and heating them on the hob. You add cinnamon, nutmeg cloves along with citrus fruits and people have their own variations on the recipies. The wine is red wine - the cheaper and nastier the better as you waste a good wine heating and despoiling it [ you can tell I am no fan of mulled winee]. It is traditionally served at Christmas and over the winter at parties especially when it is cold outsidde.

ha! Bear, you are too funny.. a friend of mine makes mulled wine and she LOVES it.. I've never had it.. but she uses the cheapest red wine she can find too (for the same reasons you said) and she said that she buys a seasoning packet and throws extra liquor in it to make it stronger.. Almost scared to try it to tell you the truth! :)

Ok, who out there are Cigar smokers? Hubby bought a humidor and some cigars.. and I just got it today.. and I'm looking at it, like it is from another planet.. it smells really nice, but I don't want to screw it up.. Anyone got any pointers? I know I need to get distilled water tomorrow to 'season' it.. so I guess I'll wait to mess with it tomorrow..

All is well here.. cold (for Charleston) and I don't like it.. nor do my joints.. fought off my cold, but it feels like it is trying to come back.. so have been pushing fluids, taking a shot of nyquil before bed, and trying to get a lot of rest.. oh, and drinking OJ.. so that's why I haven't been on much.. i check for spammers, then off to bed..

Oh Erin.. you are gonna have to take pics of your paintings, I'd love to see them..

ducky...I live in the crapital region of the great state of New York...it is part of the southern tier. I am originally from the big apple or the rotten apple as we natives referred to it...which is New York City. We are all albanians here as the state crapital is in Albany.

I like the stories about mulled wine. I have a bag of stuff and will make up some myself for valentine's day. Cooking is the only thing which I do and enjoy which others enjoy. You can use just apple juice if you want to abstain from drinking and mull that too.

Unfortunately there is very little love of literature or poetry anywhere except maybe Russia. But we poets keep getting born anyway.

I baked 3 apple breads today from ground up apples and all. It was a lot of work but probably will taste good. My appetite is gone from some kind of virus and my whole body is acho...am wiped. Allergies and asthma suck the life out of you.

well i am up and unalbe to sleep so i go to hw! i too love mulled wine. i once found these "tea bags" that you could heat a cup of red wine and soak a bag for a tad and whalah! mulled wine! i remeber being in germany in december and the open markets with plenty of hot wine to warm you up. i just dont have the quant (sp) feel around these parts...... cars and traffic. busy busy busy but not city busy .... burb busy!

still feeling sick throat and chest cold. i am suppose to go under the knife the 21st martin luthern king day observed, but me thiks i gotta get well soon and fast! crazy thing is before i went on my immunosuppresant meds i was always sick in the winter with a chest cold that lasted for months and months....... then i have been on mtx for 2 years and NO chest colds! now i am off the mtx and i have another chest cold?????? what the heck?

i thought my immune system would be awake and ready not on mtx but for me it is the exact opposite????? explain that erin???? please????????? on mtx no chest colds off mtx sick?
you another crazy thing about mtx and me?????? since i was a child i had these warts on my feet could not get rid of........ burned scraped froze drugged etc and i was told finally after many years my immune system could not fight them as they were a virus....... well 30 years of many tries and suddenly on mtx they all disappearred! gone ...... i should write a medical journal on that one! saw maybe a dozen doctors over the course of 30 years and no one could rid me of them - get me to a rhuemmy and mtx....... gone! off mtx for 2 months and 2 little buggars have shown there ugly faces on my foot!!!!! erin???????????

oh just cuz i am asking erin dont mean i am not interested in other theories? please feel free to let me know your take on my immune system? messed up? yepppers

apple bread i could have a piece right now! actually i went straight to bed no dinner last night - hence my insomnia really is just "you slept enough already " and not unable to sleep....... wonder what the family ate????? dont know ,,, didnt care.....went to bed! the advantage of having no little kidos!

erin paint me a view from your window i will buy it for a kings ransom fee! one hundred thousand dollar......... candy bar! i too use to paint. made many nice things. some still around the homestead getting old. i have four canvas panels in my family room over my couch. only a few people know they are home painted.... well now maybe a thousand do reading this teehee

mom 23 dont you just love teenagers????? i am not certain which is worse boys and their adventures or girls and their attitudes? my issue is my eldest now thinks like in college she can come and go as she pleases doesnt say goodbye where shes going...... no asking anymore..... but i think my last vent on house rules set in- but i cant wait for summer! if i hear "i am 18 and live alone when at school" one more time i am gonna scream! and what do i say ...... just like my parents.... when under my roof my rules...... i hate me for sounding like my parents did and saying that but..... i really mean it on my side of the fence now..... public sorry to my parents for my attitudes back then.......

How does time fly when one is just trying to survive? Once again, I missed almost an entire thread!

So, I will give you my beleated HAPPY NEW YEAR! To everyone. I hope 2008 so far is going well for everyone. We have a storm that's been coming in for a couple of hours. It won't be nearly as bad as when it hit Northern CA earlier today. Not a friendly storm, I hear.

For those of you in single-digit weather - my heart cries for you and sends you warm wishes to toast your joints and soul.

It's 1:30 a.m. right now and I can barely see and my hands are killing me. WIth that....I say goodnight my dear friends.

Good Saturday Moanin'!  How has your first week of the year treated you?

Jody, hope you have fared well during your cold blast.  Now it sounds like California is getting the weird weather patterns.  Not where you are, is it Camama?  We've finally had a warm up, 40's and 50's but the wind chill is another story.  We're going to be having fire warnings soon.  The house fires are what a lot are dealing with right now with space heaters and such.  A bad fatality one here two days ago.

Been very very busy and haven't had much time to check in.  Missing you all.  Have to work this morning.  Then I will be tackling replacing a coat zipper which will take my undivided attention.  I don't do this very much anymore because of my lobster claws but this is a very picky customer so I'm not having my lady do it.  Even if it takes me a week it will be perfect.  Not looking forward to it though.

Moanin everyone,

 

So sorry I haven't posted or read any in a long time.  I have been sick, sick sick, for two weeks.  Started with what I thought was a cold in mid December turned out to be Pneumonia and I was bed bound for two weeks.  What a way to start the New Year.  But I am determined to get as healthy as possible this year and keep a positive outlook on life.

Saw my Rheumy on December 27th and he tweeked my meds a little, llowered the MTX to 16 mg weekly because my liver enzymes were up and increased the folic acid.

Increased the cesamet due to nausea but other than that everything is the same and hopefully my condition will improve in the next 3 months.  Joints just do not want to move the way there supposed to.

Hope the new year find everyone well and as painfree as possible.

Will write again tomorrow.

Feel better Raven! What a way to end a year - yuck!

Boo, I live in San Diego and as luck would have it, we're only getting the tip of the storm so far and I think it'll stay that way. It has been a doozy of storm for the Northern half, that is for sure. According to our weatherman, "jet streams will make the storm pull itself back up before it hits us completely" or something like that!   This is actually really good news for San Diego  though we always need the rain. The fires that we had in October devastated many canyon/hillside homes. Heavy rains like that would cause mud slides leaving these plots of land completely unusable. Not to mention devestate evn more homes that are still standing in the same vicinity. From what I understand, we are still getting record rainfall - but the storm itself is pretty mild by comparison. Basically, the cycle is beginning again - rare but good rain.....good growth will begin....the scortching hot global-warming summers, lack of rain for a season or too....and God-forbid, devastating fires once again.

This brings up a new questions I have - off topic, consipiracy type stuff....has anyone heard of Chem Trails for weather warfare? Someone pointed them out to me in the sky the other day and gave me a bit of info on them....I'm gonna do some research on them as one has to wonder about the decline of our health over the last decade since they have begun. 

Of course the old joints don't care how big the storm is - my fingers are complaining quite a bit while I type this.

We are having another heatwave of maybe 30 tomorrow. Course february is traditionally the coldest month, I guess though they say upstate there is a february thaw. Well I have to go and rest more. I did some stuff today and the apple bread was well received by everybody. So long for now.

I know those of you in the middle of it won't understand this but I miss the upstate new york winters. I grewn up in the snow belt of Lake Ontario and miss it horribly sometimes.

Welcom sjkly - I miss the winters I had growing up in Mass, but don't think I'd survive them now! They sound pretty mild compared to weather in upstate NY!

moanin everyone........ it is gonna be 58 on tuesday!!!!!!! get out the bikinis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sjkly, i think as much as i hate the cold and snow i too would miss it ...... just a bit....... i mean how can you appreciate sunshine and warmth if you have it everyday??????? it is so special to be sunny and warm that it is like a gift? on the other hand. it isnt fair we all dont know what bitter cold is for the most of winter..... after all misery loves company........ i think bear u have it best??? for winter that is not summer......... gloomy and rainey but not freezing.... do you ever get sun there????? i picture rain and umbrellas, golashes, and lodon fog coats running amuck in yor parts. teehee not on you of course. believe it or not i dont own winter boots or a heavy winter coat. i mainly wear just wool sweaters even when it is 9 degrees like the other day. my favorite is my wool cape i belt. i only put on my hubbys winter sown coat when i plow the driveway. i keep a blanket in my car with bottled water aned granola so if i get stuck .... i hopefully will be warm? i think it is the hot flashes keeping me warm!

well gonna go my back is killing me for some reason and sitting here is not comfy...... hugs

I love this part of the country because it is so beautiful. You see the sculpture of the trees when they are bare. It gets kind of wierd when in the space of a few days it goes from 9 to 60 daytime temperatures. It didn't use to be like this. Am too tired feel like I put in a 12 hour day.

PEACE ON...YALLY...what is your surgery going to be??????????????? I want a complete body transplant myself or an immediate portal to heaven.

Hi Everyone,

Yalinda..Are you still under the weather??? It is strange that you are so sick and off of the MTX? I hope you are starting to feel better. Yes, funny about those teenagers......we have friends that tell us we will need a cannon to get my middle son out of our house (the one who is in the hot water) but I can certainly see my daughter telling us the same as yours...Grrrr!! I guess it ends when they are married??? My other son is 15 and will be going along to the courthouse tomorrow to see what happens when you make such a mistake, and my daughter is going on 11.

I'm not sure who said they are dreading the teen years, but I must say for the most part teen boys are still easier, even with my sons fiasco's!! My daughter is pretty dramatic and high maintenance with a few door slams thrown in for good measure.

Ducky...It's okay! I have a feeling after his 24 hours of community service he will think twice about doing it again. Since he is already dreading the thought of my driving him downtown each week to an alcohol class. He was hoping to do indoor soccer with brother, but his activity is now his class.

Jody...I know its difficult to keep little one's entertained and indoors! I hope it warms up soon where you are!

Counting down the days to spring even if it was 40 degrees here today...still not warm enough for me!

moanin' all...Raven sending many hugs & well wished your way for a speedy recovery from your pneumonia.

i spent 11 days at my hunny's with our 2 babies (Stella & JuneBug)...back "home" now...ugh, can't wait to get a small car so i can live w/ joe FINALLY. can't wait to get out of the city & be permanently in the mountains.

went to a fantastic private party saturday nite...was a surprise 50th for a good friend of ours who's a neurologist. hope he was suprised!  the entire restaurant was shut down!

pretty snazzy...

absolutely the best dressed one there! LOL...loaded w/ prednisone i was able to wear by 2die4 Ginger Rogers shoes. they are sexxxy.

sad  however, yesterday i got sick (toilet) and WEAK!!!!!!!!!!  the worst i've ever been bathroom sick in my life.  poor joe...he had to take apart the entire bathroom & wash everything.  eyes i didn't really eat much at the party...one bite of lobster? had 3 "light" vodka & seltzers w/ lime over the course of 7 hours... so i dunno'.

much better now.

everything is going alright w/ SSDI...they're givingme some gruff about SS...since 2005? something about not meeting the criteria? i did speak w/ someone today & they'll take my info tomorrow.

could be 3 months till i get awarded something.
