61degrees today! whoohoo i cant believe it!  man i shold have been off on disability already could have sunbathed all day!! scool

actually no sun out??? but heck it is 61!!!!! i feel like i am living with either camama or jody????

 

well my baby is back at school...... too quick a break but she will be home before i know it driving me crazy again!

 

erin, i hope you have all your quarters in for ssdi????? would be horrible to have done all that and not have enough in? you said you been on the books for like ever though right???? well keeping the fingers crossed. 

 

my cold is a bit better! yippie! not gone but better...... my voice is back at least! 

 

cant wait til the 22nd and my operation will be over then! having it on the 21st 2 weeks and counting.  i so need my meds back.  for the first time i think i feel my hips hurting?????? it is high on my waist...... each side, of course...... just after i have been sitting i get a burning feeling and soreness.  first thought what is this??? then i realized it is where the top of my hip joint meets.  probably the one joint tht was free from pain..... no more......

 

my dear friend- coworker- died yesterday.  not sinking in to my head yet.  feel like she is just away all so quick lung cancer. definetly in denial.  afraid to ask but how is everyone out there doing?  families??? treatments???

 

bear i so believe but then i loose someone and say what if bear is right? too hard to even comprehend.....either way i guess. i guess thinking to deep today hearing the sad news. she was only 55 - just sucks

 

ok now that i have been a debbie downer.... gonna go hugs to all my friends i do love you all and couldnt go through any of this without you.  yally

hugs to you dear Yally, so very sorry to hear about your friend..you're right, 55 is way too young and it does suck. Wish I had some wise and wonderful words for you, but can only send my love! Know you were a good friend to her though, hope that brings you some measure of comfort, she knew how much you cared about her. Now we just got to get you through that surgery so you can get back on your meds.
Off of everything myself except the plaquenil...it stinks. Just finished up the last (hopefully) of the antibitoics, and have to call the doc back on Friday and give them an update. If all is well, I will start back on the mtx, and maybe enbrel, but don't know in what order or when. I know what you mean though, if I ever wondered if the mtx was helping...I sure know now that it was, and I've only missed 3 or 4 weeks of it.
Raven..how are you? Was so sorry to read that you'd been sick! Had been wondering where you were and if you were ok. Hope you are feeling better now, we've missed you!
Hey Mom, weren't you supposed to have surgery on your cysts? Whatever happened with that? Seems like those busy teeneage years were a long time ago in our house, even though there were some interesting (LOL) days, I miss having the boys around.(Then they come home, starting bickering, and that takes care of that!)
Just kidding, they really do grow up so fast...doesn't seem like it at the time, but before you know it they're off and on their own.
CaMama, what are Chem Trails? Have never heard of them. How are you doing?
Was a tough weekend here...youngest son's girlfirend is have siezure issues, she's epileptic, and hadn't had problems for a long time. She's had several lately, this weekend a real bad one. She spent a lot of the day here yesterday re-couperating, and I worry about the two of them. They want to start a life together, but between her health and his diabetes, it won't be easy.
No bikini's here...that would just be plain ugly...but at least we warmed up a bit. Our couple of days of winter was more that enough for me. Now were back to fighting mosquitos, how's come those little suckers didn't freeze out?
Gotta go put up these achy feet..my coffee cup's callin'

well gonna think happpy thoughts if possible, gosh it is in the mid 60's already! we keep breaking highs. honest never this warm in january! unheard of. it smelt like spring yesterday. heck we dont get 65 in may or june sometimes!

camama a friend of mine is heading out your way today and is frustrated because you are cooler there than here! lol crazy global warming????? who knows...... anyway it is short lived as saturday the high is expected to be below freezing at only 30 degrees. so i will soak it up today cuz it aint staying!

Yalinda...I'm so sorry about your friend :( and yes 55 is just too young. My thoughts are with you sweetie. As far as the hips go....yes the old RA even shows up there much to my dismay as well! I think the burning hip pain can be the hardest to get rid of too. Try to hang in there the best you can..

Jody...I actually went last Friday to my RE (reproductive endocrinologist) and just before I was having the cysts on both ovaries, and she told me they are caused by the meds for RA, and most likely the Plaquenil. Before I went they were getting painful and I spent most of my Christmas break with them visiting! My choices are to discontinue the MTX and Plaquenil or stay on those and add in a b/c pill and see if this helps. She did say one ovary didn't look quite right but would obtain my other u/s's from the ob/gyn and then call me. It took me 3 weeks to get in to see her, so at this point there was no time to have anything done but try the pills.
I know you mentioned having an awful sinus infection? Two years ago I had one and I thought I had a toothache because I had a lot of pressure on the side of my face, and soon after my eardrum ruptured and I had this awful fluid coming out. I ended up having sinus surgery. My husband gets horrible sinus infections and the side of his face will swell up.
I hope you start feeling better, I know how miserable they can be! Yes, teen boys can be something else, but the do grow up so fast...I remind myself of this often.


So I have a question???? Has anyone ever had Bursitis?? The past few days I have had this pain as if someone is sitting on the right side of my back/chest. I went into the doctor and they ran an EKG, and a chest X-ray which only showed something on one of my ribs, maybe inflammation or something. But the doctor said it is probably bursitis? It is hard to breath, almost like a shortness of breath and I looked it up and it said could be related to arthritis. The doctor gave me a prescription for Vicodin and that was it.
Anyone ever have this? It's terribly uncomfortable!

Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well.

hey all,

mom...i had bursitis of the right shoulder, but i don't remember what shows up on film.  what's next? any treatment for it?

 

whoa...OK so i am peeved! mad last nite i watched on A&E INTERVENTION b/c they had a girl my age w/ RA!  what a sin! made me cry!  whole family accused her of being a junkie!

she was only on 2 narcotics i think. oxy & lortabs...but, the only thing "wrong" in my opinion was that the prescribing Dr gave her 1 too many muscle relaxers!  i think she had 2 different muscle relaxers....now, that could make ya' pass out more than a narcotic could. (also...there is the issue of going to more than one dr for meds too.)

any idiot could see something is wrong w/ this young beautiful girl...her hands & knuckle joints were TREMENDOUS! also has to use prednisone.

she i think is 1 of those sero negative RA pt's...that or she may/may not have RA but she ABSOLUTELY HAS some sort of disfiguring joint disease.  every finger was affected. DX is still pending.

so...if anyone gets to watch it, i'd like to know what you thought.  it was probably the most interesting intervention of that series.

I had bursitis on my right shoulder too. I used Dr. Sloan's linament oil (over the counter) and that was the best thing for it. I have not had that for a while but it is very painful.

Yally it is those who are left behind who suffer.  I really believe there is a heaven some where so our spirits are free.

Ducky...where do you live?  Are you from California, the midwest or where?

My throat is very raw and I tried drinking hot tea with lemon to get the swelling down. Well that's tastier than gargling with salt water...not my favorite.

Erin...I stopped by my rheumy's office and they have managed to squeeze me in tomorrow at 2pm. I am sure he will know about bursitis and why I can't breath! Plus the hips are on fire as well.
How sad about the girl on the program :( Many of us just struggle so much with the chronic pain and others don't really understand what it is like to hurt all of the time, especially when in a flare. I'm a sero-negative and today I took the elevator and this is something I don't do, and on the outward appearance I'm sure I looked perfectly fine, but my hips were just screaming with pain on top of the bursitis. I know if I would have watched that today I would have sat and cried :(

Moanin everyone,

Looks like I've finally gotten rid of the pneumonia and just finished the antibiotics.  I haven't been able to take the MTX though because I had two upper respiratory infections back to back so I'm hoping to take an injection by the end of the week.

Erin, I missed A&E this week and had seen the previews.  I hope they replay it.  The narcotic thing is something I'm sure we've all struggled with.  I had a good talk about a year ago with our head emergency physician who happened to be working one night when I went in the ER.  When i voiced my concerns about the oxycontin and other meds he explained that there is a difference between addiction and dependence and for me, the need to take them to have some quality of life outweighs the risk of becoming dependent. 

There is such a stigma behind it though and many times i've been made to feel like a junkie by people who are ignorant of this disease.  I am now very careful of who I tell with regards to what I take.  My older kids are learning a lot about street drugs in school and oxycontin is a big street drug around here. 

I am actually afraid of what my kids would think if they knew I took it.

as a person who is allergic to drugs I can not believe that anybody would take them without having to but with pain you have to do something about it. you have to try something. so I think it is just cruel to lump all these people together...people who take drugs for pain ad people who take drugs to escape reality or experiment or get high or whatever. If you are in pain YOU NEED SOMETHING TO HELP YOU and only a mean bean would say otherwise.

Hey everyone,

Joan, that is so true and there is a stigma with pain medication. When I went in for my ovarian cysts I had had a prescription for some very low dose Norco and after my annual exam the doctor said my left side was "really big" and if I needed a refill on any of my meds to let him know..well it caused so much pain I asked for a refill of the Norco, and the nurse said they would fax it over...went to the pharmacy and nothing...so the pharmacy had to call the doctor, I had to talk to a nurse, and it turned out the doctor didn't want to refill a prescription for the pain medication and it was 3/300!! It was crazy!! and the original was for 15 pills, hardly addicting in the first place. I finally did get it filled but felt as if I had to jump through hoops for some mild prescription pain medication:( My husband and I sat at the pharmacy for an hour and a half waiting.

Ducky...please feel better soon and try to get lots of rest and fluids!

I went to the Rheumy today and he offered a cortisone shot for my hips but since I'm a bit of a wimp, I left with a Medrol dose pack and if this doesn't work will get up the courage to go in a get the shots. My doctor was shocked when I told him I could not make it back to the car on New Years Eve because of my hip pain. I also had to fill out a quality of life work sheet? I'm not sure who fills these out when they go? Thats all I have for now.

Good night all!

It's late here, been a really hectic week...finally, finally feeling a little better, maybe?? I'm on the other side of this sinus mess.  Yeah Mom, had a couple of wonderful sinus surgeries myself many years ago...no fun at all.  Wouldn't want to go through any more of them unless absolutely necessary, but seems I live on antibiotics sometimes, and being off the RA meds is no picnic either.  So..we'll have to see what happens. Did the doc say anything about the bursitis..will the dose pack take care of that, too?  Hope they can get you out of pain and breathing easier. So sorry that so many here are feeling so sick. Joan, Ducky..hope you both feel better and soon, we're all thinking about you!  Erin, Yally..are you two still on the mend?  Raven..so glad you're doing better, too.  Pnuemonia is some scary stuff. CaMama, how are you?  Did those mouth sores ever go away?

Missing our dear Bear, too..the thread's just not the same without him. Maybe he's busy moving his cave?

Had some nice weather here this week, so the little ones are loving the chance to get outside and run off some energy..we have a nice playground set up in the backyard, they'd spend all day out there. I'm tired and they're all wired (maybe my age is catching up with me)..but they're having fun.

Getting ready to help move my mom into my sister's house within the next couple of weeks.  It's been a real emotional time for her while she sorts through things to "downsize". She's almost 80, and she's finding alot of stuff that belong to my dad, so it's triggering alot of memories. Trying to help her as much as possible, but it's hard.                      better get to bed, kids arrive very early.

Hi Jody,

It is so good to hear from you, and I understand about being busy! Those sinus infections can be nasty! Why are you off of all of your meds???? even your MTX?? How are you feeling without them? is your pain the same or worse? I'm sorry I must have missed what happened to make you stop taking them?

As for the Bursitis, he felt it could be the cause of my hip pain and after I arrived home I wondered if it has been bursitis all along? and if so then maybe I don't need the MTX etc, anyway I took the first dose of the Medrol yesterday, all 6 pills at once without food like a dummy and made myself sick! The only other complaint is the headache I woke up with. I'm not tolerating the dose pack as well as I remembered the last few times I had it. The pain wasn't really in my shoulder but somewhere between my breast bone and shoulder blade, it just felt as if something was lodged in there, like a huge bump or something, I have had it for several months but not the pain or shortness of breath that caused me to go to the doctor on Monday. I'm hoping the Medrol will do the trick. Today everything hurts a bit, hands, knees, wrists etc. I'm ready for Spring and warmer weather!

It seems everyone is down and not well and that this has been a bad winter for being sick.

I must be going through round 2 of this sinus crap.  Drainage is killing my throat.  Sipping hot tea tonight.  Ugh!  This is awful.  Someone didn't come to work today so I had to do too much.  Same tomorrow.  And I can't go to sleep.

I saw that program, Erin.  That girl had fingers and knuckles like me.  I'm sero negative too.  But one look at my hands and the disability judge almost cried for me.  My hearing didn't take long.  My rheumy always asks me if I need something stronger for pain.  So far all I'm on is my anti-inflammatory, Ambien for sleep, a beta blocker and antidepressant. 

Weird weather here.  Beautiful weekend, now back down in the 30's.  May have snow this weekend. 

Going to try for that elusive sleep again.  Hope the sneezies don't come back.

hey everyone, good moanin. sry i havent posted in a bit but i have been on a bad cruise or boat ride and i still havent come to a port. ok just my silly sense of humor. seems my cold set deep in my head as i have been spinning and i mean spinning falling over etc for three days now and i have non stop motion sickness ugh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! at least if i were on a ship i would get to enjoy the sites! seems like the cold i had and weather changes have played havoc on my head. i dont feel sick or sound sick but i am spinning and spinning and spinning ... it was scarey at first almost falling down my flight of stairs but now i am use to the sway and i dont tip as often. going to the doc this afternoon but unless i want to cancel my operation in a week i may not be able to take anything for this. going anyway.....

so lets see joan i loved you ode to duckys rice. we need some humor on this thread again too serious these days everyone not feeling well. we need to have a universal at 6 pm today we all drink some chicken nooldle soup and have a hot toddy to kill our colds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and if that dont work heck with the docs lets go to a better place with pain meds lol lol of course i cant as i am already dizzy so i best pass on that one.

Boo..Sorry to hear you are also under the weather with your Sinus troubles as well :(

Like I said in my last posting this has been an awful winter for everyone getting and staying sick! My Medrol has taken some of the pain out of my hips but I am still left with the stiffness and soreness as usual. My daughter went on a trip to the mountains where it will be COLD and I'm thinking to myself I wish I could have gone with her but I would have been paralyzed in the snow halfway down the mountain. I have to wonder if the RA just gets progressively worse for us? Since last winter the cold didn't bother me this way, and I was never frozen in my tracks with pain in my hips. It is a terrifying thought:(

I did learn that massages are bad for shoulder bursitis! It just makes it worse the next day! Other than that not much for me to whine about...I mean to report!

YIPEE It's Friday!!!!
This was one LONG week......but not feeling well made it seem longer I think.
Called the rhuemy's office today like a good girl, hoping to start back on some of the meds, but they want me to come it first and get an "all clear" from the doc. Darn. So, nothing til Tuesday. Mom, I had to stop the mtx, because of all the anitibotics in the past month. Have missed 5 doses, and yes I do feel it!! Like you, wondered if I really needed all this stuff and found out the hard way, that yes, I do. Still taking the plaq though, and had taken one injection of enbrel before all this began, and will probably try it once again when the doc says it's ok. You know, seems like I've heard that it's not uncommon to feel worse the day or so after a massage....so don't give up yet. My mom has had bursitis in her hips and always siad the massages helped so much.
Yes, that was me that called Yally, didn't see her on here for a bit, and had to call and check up and make sure she was ok. It really is nice to chat once in a while, if you ever want to, shoot me and e-mail and we can, too. I have free long distance, so I don't mind a bit. I spend so much time with the little ones, it's a treasured gift when I can have a converstion that involves more than one syllable words, and is about something other than "Dora" or "Blues Clues" haha!
Boo, so sorry you have the bug too! Have you ever tried hot spiced cider for a sore throat? That is the best medicine in the world for me...we always keep some packets in the cupboard for the winter months. How's the family doing? Hope you don't get too worn out at work, keep hoping that place will sell for you!
Better run, the youngest needs a bottle...an adorable six month old, she's so sweet...

PS  Forgot to add...tomorrow our son takes his tests for state certification for teaching YEAH!!  He's been filling in as the music director at a middle school here, and is absolutely loving it. If this all works out, he may have the contacted postion at that school as the current director is ill and retiring.  This has been a long road for him, but we're  so happy and hopeful...Celebrate with me!

Hi Jody,

That is such wonderful news for your son!!! He is in my thoughts and prayers that all goes well for him tomorrow! TGIF is right! That does make sense for you to need a break from your meds and yes it was me who stubbornly thought I didn't need them and found out the hard way...The Plaquenil really does help with the fatigue, and without it, I felt as if I were moving through quicksand! Not really sure how I would feel without the MTX...I hope you can get back on it very soon!

I haven't watched an episode of Dora for about 3 years now...*sigh* those were the days....my little girl is now passed the Dora:( I can only imagine how adorable a 6 month old is :)

That is wonderful news about your son!!!! I will keep him in my thoughts, and I hope he gets the job! That is something to celebrate :)

Look at me ma. I'm shelberating. I'm celberating, I'm cebril.......... arrh sod it - babyplace  ah's am so happy for yo' boy ahs pisssied. seriously that is great news for your son. I am soorry to hear that so many of you have had rough times health wise of late and I won't add to your woes with my moans tonight but it looks like the cave move will go ahead as we have been offered a re-mortgage that will enable us to move without selling this house first. What it means is that for the next six months or until the house is sold I will have to pay $3200 a month mortgage repayments and that will go up by another $500 in 6 months time!!!!!! We must sell this house asap after we move. I go back to work in 4 weeks time but my boss accepts that because of the pd progressing while I have been inactive she will be carrying me for the rest of the year until we both retire in December. It's sad that it should come to this as I don't ant to give up work but if nothing I am a pragmatist and realist and have to accept the fact that my brain cannot control my body anymore. The spirit is willing............... I will probably take a local part time job stacking shelves in Tesco or Sainsbury's but what I don't want to do is take onresponsibility just have a doing job. I'm responsible for 10 staff and 12000 volunteers and once that is finiished that's it for management for me. But I am having a year to myself and if all goes to plan I will visit Australia and New Zealand and n the later part fo 2009 I will again attend the  GU CONFERENCE IN wASHINGTON AND then........along came Jones? No I will be going on a road trip to meet you all - hopefully finding transport as I go. I will have to work out a route and timetable to fit all in but the west coast could prove to be a bummer - sorry a trip too far logistically - sorry peeps. 

Lots of interest over here in teh Democratic primaries - Hillary is very popular among the eople I know as we know wwherer most of the warts are - wearing trousers and standing behind her. Ayup here come the thought police I'll come quietly officer.

Well it's another weekend and I hope everybody gets rid of their bugs and enjoys it.

Hi...bear...I am a hilliary supporter too and worked on her first campaign for new york senate up here in albany. I was co-president of our very little NOW chapter and did what I could for the blight of womankind.

Still have the yuck...and many do up this way as it is strange weather for us strange people who live in the GREAT NORTHEAST.

Yally...you might have an inner ear disorder and there is a cheapie drug called antivert (the generic) which you can take. It is called mezclinine or something like that. The doc can check you out and when you take the medicine you will be better in no time I HOPE.

Let's see, a central location for all of us to meet in 2009. Ummmmm, maybe, I dunno, OKLAHOMA?! I hope I'm semi-retired by then, Bear. I'm with you....no more employees or the heavy responsibility. We have another nibble, just in time. My wonderful employee who seems to have found the chink in my armor has just about put me over the edge. Last month I got my eye exam and new glasses. She now has her new glasses. I bought a new t-shirt. She bought the same t-shirt. I got my hair cut last week. She got her hair cut, same stylist. I'm thinking I'll go to work Monday and tell her I've got to have prostate surgery and sit back and watch the fun.
Taking off early in the morning for the lake and some fishing maybe. Have a good weekend, Boo

joan, doc did prescribe meclizine knocked me out and slept on the love seat all night now i am one sore puppy as i am short and fit on a love seat but not much turn room and i guess hubby thought let her sleep so nobody woke me...... i am also on a z pack, no signs of ear or sinus infection but he thought it sould be a good idea just in case it is dep and i show a fever in 10 days then i wont have the operation. he said i more than likely had inflammation of my labarynth unknow cause, so i asked RA of the labaryth .... teehee leave it to me to get it there !!!! hahahaha
