First Time to Post Here

This is my first time to post here and I need some advice. I have uc - just diagnosised 8/25/08 and my arthritis is up. I am having a difficult time opening a bottle of water. Does anyone have any ideas on how to accomplish this simple yet very painful task?

Hey Gigi.. welcome to the arthritis forum... have you tried any rubber grips, or silicone jar openers? They sell them at Wal-Mart and Target.. they are usually pretty in-expensive.. I use them to open everything, jars, water bottles.. etc.. It grips on to the lid so you don't have to use as much force, or grip the lid as tight when you try to unscrew it.. good luck!

GiGi,

I bought(many years ago, before I got RA...just had weak hands) a jar opener that is metal. It has 2 "claws" at the front and on the handle theres holes where you can select the size of jar you need to open. Its really handy for me, especially now. My grandad had one of those rubber pulley things that Ducky described and he swore by it. He got his at Wal-mart, or Canadian tire. I'm not sure.
