I have been diagnosed with RA now for two years. In that time I have been on several meds.  Currently, methotrexate, and humira for about 3 months. Still, I have been in a terrible flare up for the last month. Pain and fatique is really bad. I read about minocyclin, the antibiotic, for RA. If anyone is taking this drug for RA, please respond and let me know how it is working for you.  Thank you.

I doubt it is more effective than Humira at reducing the effect of TNFa, but it is a plausible treatment for RA. I've never heard of it being prescribed personally, but I'm sure there are some trials underway.

I'll be interested to hear from anyone who was given this for RA?

Incidentally, it wouldn't be too difficult I imagine to obtain a script for this drug from an understanding family doctor, given it isn't restricted and has no abuse potential.

EDIT: Seems over in the states, antibiotic therapy has been used for a few years as an alternative to some of the more toxic meds. Never seen it used in UK, but that doesn't mean it isn't.

I was on minocycline for short time about 10+ years ago. I was the one who mentioned it to my Rheumy. I don't think that it helped me much. I didn't experience any real relief until I started taking Methotrexate.
