first remicade infusion two weeks ago - just broke out in a rash all over

Has anyone had a rash from Remicade.   I had my first infusion two weeks ago and supposed to have another on Tuesday.  Was fine until today and now am covered with a red itchy rash.   could it be a reaction after two weeks?  Haven't taken anything else new.  getting pretty discouraged, if I can't take this I don't know what else they'll try.  Humira was great for awhile bu then stopped working.  any input appreciated

Have you called your doc about the rash? I may very well be due to the Remicade. You can have a delayed allergic reaction. I do not think they will give you an infusion on Tuesday. I know it is discouraging trying all of these meds. Have you tried Simponi or Orencia yet?

I will call the rheumy tomorrow, always get these things on the weekend.  Talked to the live nurse at Blue Cross and also my pharmacist.  both seemed to think it was unlikely I'd get a reaction 10 ays after the infusion but I don't think any of them, including the rheumys really know what these drugs can cause.

If the rash is still there tomorrow I'll see if my rheumy can take a look at it and either way will let her know that I am concerned about the infusion on Tuesday.     the only other drugs I have taken are methotextrate (caused liver counts to go up), celebrex (allergic rash)      and Humira (was a miracle for awhile but stopped doing the trick).

Hi, Alicat,

Please let us know what the doc says. I can tell you from first-hand experience that it is very possible to have a delayed allergic reaction to a med. I am queen of delayed allergic reactions. I had elevated liver counts on MTX, too, but my doc lowered my dose to 3 pills a week ( from 5 pills a week ) and I get my blood tested next week. We shall see. I take Celebrex and am okay so far with it, but it has a tendency to raise my bp. Hopeyou feel better soon! Please let us know how your are doing. You are on my worry list. :)

I'm off to church and then will call my rheumy to see if she can tqake a look at my rash.  Still have it this morning but not quite as itchy.   took a benadryl pill last night and my mouth feels all dried out.                          

Will let you know how I make out and thanks for your concern

Hi! Wondering how you are going with rash? I had first remicade infusion 2weeks ago and three days ago I came our in a terrible rash that seems to be getting worse. It is all over my chest and neck and is itchy and sore at the same time. I have postponed my infusion due today. Worried how long it's going to be like this! Hope u r going ok...

my rash went away in a few days bit the doctor decided I shouldn't continue on the remicade. So - I started on Cimzia.  I had two injections 11 days ago and so far no problems but it really hasn't kicked in yet so I'm still on prednisone too for awhile.    I'm supposed to either take one injection every two weeks or two injections once a month now.   I think I'll do the every two weeks.   My rheumy is supposed to call today to see how I'm doing so I'll ask  her which is best.   Hopefully this drug will help for awhile w/o any side effects.  Did you show your rhuemy the rash?    sounds like an allergic reaction.    Good luck and let me know how you make out
