Hi Gypsy,
When I was first diagnosed, nearly 5 years ago now, I remember complaining to my rheumy that I'd always looked after myself. Eating healthy foods exercising, yoga, meditation. Healthy lifestyle, healthy children, I couldn't believe it was hapenning to me.
She told me that because I've looked after myself I was in good shape for fighting this disease and reducing my chances of permanent damage...not at all what I wanted to hear.
I tried all the diets, I've tried so many supplements I felt iwas rattling from all the tablets I was swallowing. My own experience is the diets did very little, some supplements helped but only the meds have got it under control. We are all so different, we all respond so differently, I was crestfallen I couldn't control it without meds, I think I was in denial too.
Things that have helped me are fish oil (2.4 grams per day) and no white wines. Anything too acidic can upset me too but berries are natural anti inflammatories and they help.
Overall stopping the deadly nightshades made no difference, gluten the same. But I have heard it work for some people.
Try not to stress that really makes it worse and meditation or relaxation can help you cope.
But overall, ask a million questions of your doctors, learn as much as you can and try and be involved as much as possible with your treatment. Its a really tough diagnosis, but you are not alone. Most of us here have tried something alternative along the way.
I'm a great believer in giving everything a go within reason.
Cider vinegar is another old fashioned treatment you could try. 2 tbs in a glass of water with a spoon of honey, tastes better if the water is warm.
Goodluck, keep us posted, golitho
