Ok, so my rheumy put me on 10 mg of prednisone last monday. I've felt great ever since...... until today. I had as bad a day as ever. The weather is clear and chilly. I was soooo disappointed. This stuff just won't let go. It would be nice to have at least a week go by without a really bad day. Is that too much to ask?? He wants me to drop down to 7.5 mg of prednisone and go on minocycline this week. Maybe that will give me better relief. He said it wouldn't be quick.

Hello,

10 mg is not really a high dose of Prednisone.  Did your rheumy prescribe anything for pain, or an NSAID to take with the prednisione?  I think you may need something more to help you thru your flare.  Just a thought...

Thanks Vannie. No, he didn't tell me to take anything besides the prednisone and plaquenil. I might have to try some advil tomorrow. I hate taking so many drugs but you gotta do what you gotta do. Thanks!

I know, Jean...I used to worry so much about all the drugs, but most days now, I just swallow them down. LOL I can't function w/o them, so no reason to worry about something I can't change, right? Just wanted to check in and see how you are doing now. I take 15 to 20 pills a day depending on the day of the week. Of course, I have other health issues, too. Humira seems to be helping a lot. At least it has lowered the inflammation markers, or so my blood tests say. Hope you are doing better!

Thanks Vannie. I am doing fair. While most days I feel better, I still occasionally have a really bad day, like today. I am wrestling with some decisions like a job change and move with this chronic disease. I honestly don't know where I'll get the energy but I am gonna try to move forward. Good luck to you.

Would you be moving across country, or just starting new employment? I know the energy level thing is really the worst thing about RA...unless the pain level goes thru the roof! I was thinking about this the other day. I don't know what I would do if I lost my job. I carry the insurance, and I can't work anywhere but an office. I can't stand on my feet long. You know what I mean. Best wishes to you. Hope it all works out for the best.

Thanks Vannie. Yea, it's a heck of a decision especially when I've been struggling so much. I can usually make it to work but I am not my best. I do health education actually and the move would only be 3 hours away. I do not have to cover my health insurance. It's a nice job though. My current job sucks big time.

Do you have to take soma every night and tramadol every day for pain management?

I take four to six Tramadol every day for pain management, along with 200 mg of Celebrex monring and evening, and 5 mg of prednisone morening and evening. I only take Soma when my back or shoulders tighten up so much that I have no choice. Soma has been a lifesaver, though. When you need it, you really need it.

Would you have help moving to the new area? Wouldnt be so bad then. This disease can make a person feel trapped. I have worked the same place for nine years, and I like my job and my boss is okay, but her boss is a horses behind. I have the highest rating in our department, but my boss' manager keeps telling her I get up from my desk too much. I have had to learn to work smarter, not harder, and it is working for me. This guy is a creep...so, I told my RD about it and she sent them what she called a "formal" letter Friday. Monday should be interesting! What job do you do now? BTW, I filed FMLA last April, and I'm glad I did. When I flare, I just can't make it to work. I haven't been gone a lot, but when I need to be home, I can do it w/o being afraid of repercussions. I guess I will file it again this Spring. My orth filled it out for me last year. That was before I was Dx. I will give it to my RD this year.

OH yes, I'd have help moving but I would probably need to do some packing. I'd hate to put it all on my hubby. I certainly wouldn't be loading and unloading trucks. It could be complicated b/c my hubby might not be able to move with me for 3 months due to his job. He would be retiring and it takes time. He works for the feds, so things don't happen quickly.

My rheumy mentioned giving me a script for soma. I didn't think it would help much b/c flexeril makes me so groggy and hung over the next day. I take 1/2 a loritab in the evenings or if I am sick at home. I am afraid to take it and drive around. Not that I feel any affects but I guess one could get a DUI from it. Do you think??? Tramadol helps me a little. Unfortunately, I am allergic to celebrex. It helped me.

Yea, I have filed FMLA for my colitis surgery. I haven't for my RA. Currently, my boss is pretty nasty as well. She is out to get me b/c of something that happened. I think if I worked back in health care, people would be more accomodating and understanding. They seemed really nice but it was just an interview. They do seem to want me really badly though and that feels good when you have been treated so badly. Last year, when I was sick and going for a surgery consult, my big boss called me and told me if the doctor didnt' put me in bed the next day that I better not call in sick!!! After she found out that I had to go to surgery she took it all back and has been my advocate since.

Good luck tomorrow Vannie!!!! Don't take any crap!

I am kind of looking forward to tomorrow, just to see what happens. I'm not really mad anymore, thank goodness! I am curious to see what they will say and/or do. My RD spelled it out pretty vividly, and they will be in violation of ADA if they keep giving me grief over getting up from my desk and walking around. So...we shall see. That nasty mgr can get me going, though. He is so out of line, and I am SO DONE with his crap.

I will let you know how it goes. I hope you get that job, Alicat. Sounds like the stress of a new job would be less than what you have at your place of work now.
