 Having serious dental problems.  had tooth pulled 3 days ago.  now dentist says i need to have another pulled because infection has spread. Ive seen 3 dentists and they all think its possible that ra is the culprit. one said i suppose it could cause it. but none were willing

to put pen to paper for me. please tell me if you have had dental problems.

Hmmmmmmmmmm. I posted an answer to your question last night, but I guess it didn't "stick". Yes, RA has caused me numerous dental issues. My dentist and hygienist brought up the connection of RA and dentail issues to me. My mouth is very dry since being Dx with Ra. That promotes tooth decay. I have spent a lot of money at the dentist already this year. I do find that Biotene mouthwash helps a lot in that area. Evidently, periodontal disease and RA go hand in hand, also. Hang in there!

I am not sure that I could specifically say that it is the RA but I can tell you that I haven't had dental issues until September/October of last year. Since then I have had 2 teeth pulled, 2 partial root canals and a surgery to repair a hole an infection ate into my jaw bone. Now I have another cracked tooth. Is it the RA or sjogrens?? No dentist agreed one way or another. I am, however, going to get a new dentist. I think the one I was seeing is not up on the new and his equipment is even older.

I think the question should be? is it worth spending thousands of dollars on dental issues if they are only going to get worse?? I just cannot see spending money on root canals and caps if the teeth are going to crumble out from underneath anyway. What is everyones opinion of that?

I am strarting to have the same reservatrions about all the money I am spending on my teeh. Arrrgh!

I had a root canal a few weeks prior to my onset. I sometimes get a sensation of full mouth (gums & teeth) pain that my dentist cannot find a cause for and my RD says it is not RA related but I think it is.

Ha Yes i had Serious infections even had a huge boil on side of face from tooth infection ( no not a good look) this went on and on till i eventually had all but 4 bottom front teeth out so i now have No teeth - well i have 4 bottom front but have been Told these need to Come out. Dentist said it was Prednisone and also lack of enough saliva due to the dryness issues

so i guess i don't know if it is the chicken or the egg that came first - RA or RA Treatment

In the past, I have had many dental problems including 4 lost teeth(partial), root canals, fillings and about 14 years ago abscesses and Gingivitis. There are may reasons for dental problems but in my case I know that it was not RA.

I simply had stopped brushing and flossing my teeth often enough and I didn't have my blood sugars under control. For many years now, I have gotten my Diabetes under better control. I brush my teeth 2x a day and floss each time, see my Dental Hygenist every 6 months, consume plenty of calcium and drink lots of water since mouth dryness is one of the reasons. Pred., I do not have a choice. I reversed the Gingivitis quite a few years ago.

I've had tooth problems too, a tooth broke right in half down below the gum line. My dentist has somehow saved it, she is sure its the RA. Her mother has it, so she has first hand knowledge. The meds we are on don't help us. But I still have all my teeth,drink lots of water, flossing etc
I have frequent fillings which I never had before, my diet hasn't changed but my calcium and vit D levels plummeted with all the meds. Makes you wonder?
I'm sure its linked. I've always looked after my teeth.

I went through such a rough time with root canals/ cavities/crowns that we joked and said I was stalking my dentist. She finally gave me a prescription strength toothpaste!!! I've also had problems with a dry mouth off and on with all these AI issues.
