Sherry, I've just been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondilitis with possible Sacroilitis. I have had so much pain and thought it was all the fibromyalgia but the rheumatologist said I've probably had this for years. I had controlled it with ibuprofen...even though I have Crohn's disease! It never bothered my intestines...but my stomach got hit last summer.
I was taken off ibuprofen and I went on a search for a product that could help with the intense pain that was coming back. I found an alternative product called Curamin that works to reduce inflammation. It has won awards in the alternative medicine field and it has helped me. (Email me if you want to know more about it. I'll send you some info.) It was working quite well but then my precious dog died. I absolutely fell apart and this caused a ton of inflammation to come back so I needed to do more. I had to go back on ibuprofen. I use cyctotex with it to protect my stomach and also Pepcid AC to help my stomach, too. So far so good. It was either that or not being able to walk without level 10 pain. I'm hoping, once I get the inflammation back under control, that I can back off the ibuprofen and let the Curamin do it's thing again.
Another thing to ask your doctor about is a drug called Azulfadine. It's a sulfa drug and they are using this with rheumatoid arthritis, too. I took it for 11 years to help keep the Crohn's under control. I never had a single side effect from it either. I will be talking to my rheumy about this, too, just in case we have to add that to my arsenal. The Azulfadine, though, does take about three months before you start noticing a difference but this could really help your ulcerative colitis, too! My Crohn's was centered in my colon so that's why they used this on me. It's very inexpensive, too, and has been around for years!

Hope this helps you.
