I was started on plaquenil today.  I have rheumatoid arthritis and am also on cimzia and 2.5 mg. of prednisone. My rheumy is trying to get my sed rate and CRP levels down but he has been working on it for almost 2 years now. Levels are always at least double what they should be.  So today begins Plaquenil we shall see. I have read on here that many of you have had to take if for at least 3 months before you could tell a difference.  I was wondering too if any of you have lost weight being on it? For me the fatigue is horrible I push myself to do things and then sometimes I pay for that.  I work everyday M-F and I so far have managed not to miss but a day or two here and there.  I am so hoping that this does the trick for me.  Any feedback would be very helpful.  Thanks to you all .

Oh it is so hard to fight that tired feeling, sometimes folic acid helps with that...Give the plaquernil
time to work and get into your eye doctor as these medicines can have side effects on the eye's...
get a good eye doctor to get your eye's look at and taken care of..
others will be by with better advise...

3 months is about how long it takes to really feel a difference. I did notice small changes around 1 month.

Get a perscription for folic acid if you want more than 800mg.

Hi it seems 3 months is the time for most of these meds to kick in

i was on Plaquinil years ago and after about 2 weeks had a terrible reaction to it Very sick

started with a sore throat then had a Tempreture of 109 f (43c)

 and was in hospital for a week

However i Did have Very Good Results with ARAVA and it worked quite quickly

But after about 10-12 months my Liver enzymes went up too high so had to stop,

 i was Quite annoyed as i was feeling Good

Hope the Plaquinil works for you i haven't heard of many people here on Arava not sure why.

i'm now simply on Metheltrexate and Prednisone combo, till i get brave enough to try another biologic.

turn  thank you all so much for speaking to me.  I am on folic acid due to having been on methotrexate in the past.  Just stayed on it as I knew it was good for me anyway.  I sure hope the energy comes back I was feeling awesome when I was on prednisone 10mg. a day.  Rheumy backed me down slowly till I was due to come off of it.  Wow did I get a surprise.... I had an awful weekend in the bed all day and night.  Couldnt function without any so I am back on the 2.5 mg and doing ok but energy is still not good.  I can walk around in the yard for just a little bit and you can see the energy drain from my face.  Praying for you all and hoping you all have a wonderful weekend.

psbg, I wish I had some pearls of wisdom for you but I am having a horrible flare myself. Lately, it seems that Saturdays are awful for me, perhaps because I have worked all week? This is the worst day of fatigue I've had in a very long time. I haven't missed a lot of work either and perhaps by resting until Monday, I can go to work. It really sucks because I can't do hardly any chores. It's a struggle.. I hope we both catch a break soon.

jenneac, bless your heart... I do believe that mine is worse today due to having worked all week as well. All I can do is rest and hopefully I will be better by Monday when I go back to work as well. I think you kind of figure out what you need to do after your head quits being so thick...lol thinking I can work this out. Nope you don't work it out it will work you out if you don't rest. I just drove the tractor today while my husband fertilized our blueberries.... well didn't take but about and hour to do what we did but it was the couch for me after that.... Oh well better days are ahead I just know it. Hoping that you are better tomorrow! We just have to do this thing one day at a time...lol

I used to take Saturday, Sunday, and Monday to recover from working Tuesday to Friday 7-5. It's very aggrevating when the couch won't let you go.

I lost a lot of weight when I started on plaquenil-no appitite and food aversions which for some people are side effects.
At the same time-after about 6 weeks the fatigue was noticably decreased-like 90% better.

couchtater thanks so much for letting me know about the resting you had to do. It is truely aggravating when the couch won't let you go and I have so many things I like to do on the weekends after I am off. I called my rheumy today to see if I could come in and get a prednisone shot as I had to miss work today. Hoping that he will increase my dosage of prednisone till the plaquenil starts work.

Sjkly thank you for you information. It really makes me feel alot better to hear from folks that have seen a decrease in the fatigue as this is where my problem is now. Loosing weight will help me as well. I have only been on the plaquenil for 3 days now so I am hoping that I get good results too.

Update on the Plaquenil.. It seems to be working great for me. Fatigue is greatly diminished. still a little but not nearly as bad as it was. Weight is getting better. Maybe it will help me to loose weight like it has some of you. I sure do need to. Will help arthritis and other issues greatly. Thanks so much for all this support from all of you. It is wonderful to come on here and talk with other folks that understand what you are going through.

psbg-and it's still early. It gets even better. I started having some food aversions and sea sickness from the plaq-that passess after a while but certainly contributes to weight loss.

Wow great to hear sjkly... I am so looking forward to feeling better and losing some weight... I have lost 11 pounds so far. This will be great for my arthritis as well. Glad to hear that the sea sickness and food aversions will pass. I have not experienced food adversions but I have felt a little dizzy at times but nothing bad for sure.

Hello Kate thanks so much. and you are so right weight loss is so hard when you are not so active... and I have not been active for awhile now due to no energy. Was able to work all day yesterday and go to Vacation Bible School till 8:30 last night. Woo hoo.. feeling so much better.
