Hi there, I have seronegative arthritis and had shoulder pain starting in the spring. 2 x depomedrol injection into joint which gave some relief, and now it feels like it is out o the flare BUT my range of motion is horrible and I still have pain if I lie on it or use it. Any of you have experience with SNA and frozen shoulder? We increased mt metho to try to settle the flare, which I think worked, but the physio said I just have to wait the shoulder out until it unthaws. *sigh*

Hi there,

I'm sero-negative as well, I get pain in my shoulders at times, but have never heard of a *frozen* shoulder that needs to thaw out. Short of prednisone, and the injections, along with your MTX, I'm not really sure what else can be done. Have you tried other medications such as plaquenil or the biologics, Enbrel, Humira?

I was on plaquinil, which worked for 3 years, then we switched to mtx. I increased to 20 mg in September. Seems to have settled down the other joints, but gee, does it ever make me tired and sick for a few days.
Frozen shoulder goes through 3 phase - the active phase, the freezing phase, and the thawing phase. I'm in the second right now, apparently. The physio says that if I actively try to stretch, etc. it will make it worse. He said I had to wait to thaw :).

Sorry to hear the plaquenil stopped working, there are so many other meds out there to try, maybe your rheumy can help you figure out a new plan, and get a new cocktail started in addition to your MTX, especially if you are having issues with a frozen shoulder, so sorry, maybe someone will come along who has heard of that!
