I have been dealing with pain in my upper leg for about a year now.  I walk with a severe limp and it limits my activities to a great extent. sad

Does anyone else have this problem? Help please!

WElcome to the forum. Can you describe the pain and where it is. Is it joint pain or more of a muscle pain? Did you have an injury that precipitated the pain or was it a sudden thing? Just q's to help to formulate an answer for you. Hoping that someone comes along that can help you as well.

Thanks for the reply Oreo.  I will try to give a better description of my leg pain.  One morning last spring (2004) I woke up and was unable to walk without  a limp.  There was no recent accident or event that brought the pain on.  When I was around twelve I fell from a tree and cracked my tailbone. so this may have some connection. I have one hip that is elevated and the fall may be the reason.  I have had x-rays which show a small amount of arithris and small osteophytes between L4 and L5. My doctor does not think that there is enough arthritis to cause my leg pain, but my chiropractor believes that there is.  The pain in my leg seems to be muscular but I also have pain in my hip which could be a combination of joint and muscle pain.  The pain in my leg runs down the inside of the leg from the groin to half way to the knee.  Most likely the pain is caused by nerve irriation in the spine and hip area.  I am seeing a physiotherapist to try to keep my pelvis level and to try to strenghten the muscles of the hip and leg. I finally weakened and took Bextra for two days which made a huge difference.  The pain was completely gone and I could walk normally.  It is a very hard decision to make whether you want to be pain free but risk the terrible side effects that come with medication. If anyone has any insight into my condition I would appreciate the advice.

i think you are totally right on target with your body! it's prpbably a big combo of things. muscular, vertebral and some nerves too. if you think of it....if there is something going on with the spine, it will ultimately effect the gait and legs and how we carry ourselves and if there are osteophytes, there could be some compression involved too. seeing a physiotherapist is a great idea (they look at the big picture and the body as a whole) and i think it's great you got some relief from bextra.
regarding meds....everything in moderation is fine. if you're not allergic to it i say take it if it helps. or experiment. this is a med that can be taken daily prophylactically or if you feel you only need it on an as need basis...think about it. some may feel that small daily doses will prevent inflammation and keep it from flaring up all together. if you feel you only need it when its aggrevated that's great! remember, those side effects we hear about with cardiac problems are from whopping doses (and a lot of the people already had heart complications to begin with). findiing a med that works is hard to come by! i wish i had one! talk to your doc on dosages that are safe to take daily and as needed a basis. you sound like you are on the right path!

Erin, thanks so much for the reply.  It is nice to have confirmation from someone that I maybe on the right track.  I have'nt taken anymore Bextra for the pain but have taken Advil when I feel the need.  This is a learning process that lasts a lifetime and it is great to have a source for information such as this forum. Thanks for the support :-)

How very true. Most chronic pain is a learning experience. Keep on doing what you think is best. Glad to hear that the pain has gone a way. Keep us posted.
