Orencia infusions

I've been on Orencia infusions every four weeks for six months. At the time of the last infusion I had a mild sore throat, was nervous about taking it so rescheduled for a week later. Now it hasn't had as much of a positive effect on my joints, I've been in more pain this time around, and wondered if that that was such a good idea.
So, my question is: can one take biologics with a common cold virus, and does it make things worse? What is generally described as an 'infection' which would hinder one from taking it? Also, does taking orencia at five weeks make one more acceptable for side effects, building antibiodies, and generally not working as well? I'm also on 20mg injectable methotrexate and a medrol taper, currently at 12 mg.
Just wondered if anyone else had similar experiences. I'm hoping that I didn't mess things up...I was feeling great on it!

I wouldn't think that you've messed anything up. I was on enbrel for many years, and I always took it if I just had the common cold. If it was a full-blown sinus infection, however, I would hold off until I finished the antibiotics. I think it's probably ok with just a cold, but you could always ask your doctor his/her preference.

I started orencia infusions; I've had two and going in for the 3rd one this week. I've had a great response so far, but it only lasts a week or so before I'm back to square 1. I've been told it can take orencia 5-6 months to build up enough in your system to truly have significant effects. I'm optimistic, though, since I do have a few days relief directly after an infusion.

Thanks for your reply, elcamino. Hopefully I won't have to worry about another cold for awhile, but it's nice to know that biologics don't turn the common cold virus into pneumonia or strep throat...

Orencia did take a long time to "kick in"...for me it was that 5 month mark. Each time was better, although it was a slow and gradual improvement. Before skipping that week and going 5 weeks between infusions, I was 99% pain free, no morning stiffness and feeling great the entire month. Hope you will be at the same spot soon.
