I wanted to put a question out there to the many people who have/are on prednisone. I have been on prednisone for about 3 weeks now (low dose) and I have noticed that it helps some of my joints (knees & back) but causes more pain in others (elbows/arms). It seems somewhat strange & confusing I know.. but I was wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Thanks for any and all responses.

How low of a dose are you taking? It shouldn't cause you more pain anywhere. It just could be that the dose you are on is not strong enough.

I agree with Spicey, it should be helping but the doseage might be to low, maybe talk to your doctor and see if a slow increase might help, I have the 1 mg pills and I'm starting on 1/2 mg and might do the full 1 mg today. My doctor has allowed me for now to possibly increase this to 2 mgs a day and see how it helps. Many well wishes to you, hope your feeling better soon..

I was taking 10mg but after my last visit with my rheumy he suggested that I increase it to 20mg to try and help this flare up calm down. I am now on the prednisone, methotrexate, tramadol (50mg) for pain, but I still feel like ripping my arm off it hurts so much. Its so strange though because my knee and back (where my pain originated) is feeling great. Haha. I'm not sure what is worse; not being able to walk much or not being able to use my arm. Guess this is a lesson in taking the bad with the good...

frustating disease! I've been on the steroid medrol for 4 years in addition to Plaquinol and methotrexate. It seems to me that the steroid is the only thing that helps much. I'm down to alternating 1 to 2 mg a day in order to get my weight back to normal. I'm living with a lot of pain and fatigue. My rheumy doesn't seem too concerned because my joint damage is staying the same.

Maybe you should get an mri of your arm to make sure it's not something else that is causing all this pain...could be something else causing that and if its been acting up maybe to ease your mind an mri might do that, many well wishes...
