swelling in feet with RA

was weaned off prednisone and within one week feet are back to swelling.  i'm still taking 5 tablets of 2.5 mg of methotrexate once a week.  was wondering if anyone was taken off prednisone and had this happen.  what did you rheumi do?  put you back on prednisone or up your dosage of methotrexate.  did it help what ever he did.  thanks for your answers.

Hi and welcome! I have had the same problem in the past and was put back on prednisone but at a lower dose. I was also put on a fluid pill as I also have high blood pressure. Hope this helps!

was started on 10 mg a day for 2 months, then down to 5 mg for a month, then 4mg, 3mg, 2mg, 1mg for 1 week for each mg (4, 3, 2, 1). what prednisone mg did he put you back on? are you also on methotrexate? thanks for the welcome and hi to you as a new member also.

Yes, I went through this as well recently but it was both my hands and feet. I ended up back on 10mg and it helped tremendously. I fear however that I may never be able to stop taking it without very bad consequences. This seems to be the way things are with RA.

I hope you are able to taper off and not flare.

sorry for what you are going through, but glad the 10mg of prednisone is helping you. how long were you originally on prednisone and how high a dosage originally? are you also take methotrexate pills?

originally it was in my hands and feet. but, now it's in knees and feet. i know what you mean about the bad consequences. what has you rheumi said to you about consequences?

My worst consequence from prednisone is a loss of bone density and I lost a tooth. Seemingly its common as the pred masks pain so you don't realise you have an infected tooth as there is no pain. My tooth literally broke in half, the dentist tried to save it but couldn't in the end. I had put on about 7 kilos too and felt puffy around my face. It took me months and months, dropping .5 mg every 3 weeks but I finally got off the prednisone with a lot of determination.
I feel so much more like my old self again, no longer waking up all night long because of the pred. More pain but I have adjusted to it.
Tapering is one of the hardest things I have done. goodluck, golitho
