Hi Hoopie,
I felt so sorry for you when I read your post that I did a bit of investigation on your behalf. I have no medical qualifications so don’t take this information as gospel just as an attempt to help in some small way.
I am a diabetic too and find steroids and BS very difficult to juggle. If you can go on a higher dose of steroids for a short while (1/2 weeeks) to get you over the worst part of your illness you should be able to come off it gradually without any long term repercussions.
A lung lesion can be the result of an infection or illness like tuberculosis or pneumonia, which may clear up without long-term problems. For example, a doctor may perform a CAT scan and discover a lung lesion that has formed in relation to the infection. This condition usually resolves itself on its own, though antibiotics may help some patients to recover faster. Lesions that form in relation to Mycoplasma pneumonia are unlikely to be cancerous. This type of pneumonia caught my eye because of the lumps in the neck. See link http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/ency/article/000082.htm
I hope this is of some help. Hang in there. Neenaa
