Hi all,

I'm a newly diagnosed RA patient.  After 15 years of assuming I was overweight and lazy, I was finally diagnosed.  While I am glad to know what's wrong, it's been tough to digest.  I am currently taking prednisone, folic acid, and methotrexate.  My stomach is killing me.  I am wondering a few things.

1.  Is the muscle pain I have related?

2.  Is the rash on my face related?

3.  Has anyone else experienced nausea with the metho and if so, how did they deal with it?

A good starting point for you would be with your doctor, Write all this down and take it with you to your next doctor appointment. The methotrexate could very well be causing your stomach pain and so you really need to let your doctor know about that so a switch from pill to injectable mtx might be better for you, or adding a stomach medicine might also help. But your doctor really needs to know about these so get an appointment.

I had a bit of nausea when I started metho. I read somewhere that a chemo nurse recommended green olives, so I eat a couple of those when I take the metho. I don't know if it's the green olives, or if I'm just "used" to taking metho now, but the nausea's gone. Also, when my mom was going through chemo, her nurse told her that drinking cold water was good when you're feeling nauseated. Apparently it causes the stomach to contract which makes it harder to throw up.
