eyes   I hit my knee very hard yesterday on the corner of the bed and dislocated it very badly although it went back into place.  It is very painful and very swollen now and I can walk only with great difficulty.  I did the normal things like putting a pack of frozen peas on it and "slept" last night with my leg on a pillow.

Does anyone have any idea how long it may take to heal up?  These things always happen at the weekend.  I am going to the doc in the morning and I rarely go believe me..!

I do suffer from arthritis but one place I didn't really have much of a problem was in the knees - do you think that I will now as a result of this injury?

Any advice as to what  I should do until I can get to the docs?   Thank you!    Anya xx

how did you make out?? let us know ASAP. a dislocated knee needs immediate care. it may take a few weeks to be pain free and full use of the joint if nothing else tore or was ruptured. i wish you well. let us know what happened as soon as you feel up to it.

Erin!!   Thank you for your reply - sorry for late  reply but thought I'd come to the wrong place for my query really to be fair .. just panicked at the time and didn't know who to ask!!   Thank you for replying!!  Been in lots of pain and when I  went to the doctor finally he said I should have sought immediate treatment too!!   Rarley go to the doctor but was glad to get  there!

No cartiledge damage but trauma to surrounding tissues and lots of fluid by now - knee is very swollen today (Wed) despite very strong anti-imflammatories prescribed.  I am really annoyed I can't get around lol but also know I musn't!!  When I walk on it it feels as it just may dislocate again which worries me!!  Still using ice packs etc and hope it will be ok soon but thank you SO much for asking!!  Anya xx

You did the right thing, and I am happy you got to the docs. I'm not surprised the knee is quite swollen. That is something you might be dealing with for quite a few days. Keep an eye on it! The swelling should start to minimize by Friday. Also, if your stressing the knee it can blow up so be careful as it heals. Ice is really good & elevation also.
Remember, sometimes torn tissues take a lot longer than breaks do actually! Everyone is different and heals at different rates. This will take some time but know that you are healing...and that's a wonderful thing.
It might take a day or so for the anti inflammatories to kick in.
Can you use a crutch or something to keep some pressure off when you walk?

Yesterday I dislocated my knee while working out my leg muscle.  It doesn't hurt but my right knee is now swollen.  I don't have bruise at this moment  I can walk but it's really uncomfortable.  I'm trying my best to not to put stress on my right leg.  I know I have to go to hospital but I don't have insurance and don't have the money at this moment...  Is there any chance that knee muscle will pop into the right place.  I would appreciate it if you can help me heal my knee without going to hospial.  How much does hospital charge to fix dislocated knee (x-rays, therapist)?  Best thing I can do at this moment is to goto school nurse.  Thanks.

GO TO THE NURSE! Start there at the very least and see what the school can do for you. They may know somewhere you can go when patients are w/o insurance or funds. But, at least have someone look at it. Discuss it with them your fund situation if they want you to go somewhere more professional.

also, there is charity care programs. when and if you need to go to the ER and if you are under a certain income...you may qualify. if it is an emergency and you are in pain...you are never denied treatment. but charity care will help pay for the ER all of it or a portion whether you qualify financially.
a dislocated knee needs treatment if there is pain, swelling and you cannot walk on it! it is better to be safe than sorry!!!
go see the nurse first if it makes you more secure in your decision!

also, when you get home...ice the area (for 20 minutes), and elevate too!
