Hi, I have been an AS sufferer for over 10 years. Due to other medical conditions, I have been advised against taking biologics, and due to short gut syndrome have Ben unable to tolerate pain medication unless through IV. My AS has progressed lately into my neck and shoulders, and at 64 years of age, and still working albeit from home, am getting frustrated with the pain, and seeing no relief whatsoever. I need help and soon. I am losing patience and the will to go on. Anyone have any advice? Thank you in advance.

Hi and welcome, I wish I had some experience to share with you that might help but I have pain meds to fall back on. I just wanted to say hang in there and I pray that you might find some relief from your suffering and to have peace in your heart.
Chronic pain is such a debilitating thing, I am so sorry that you are going through this. I rely on my spiritual walk with The Lord to help get me through these things and the people I have met while on this journey also have been so supportive and loving. My pastor and church family have been such a huge support I hope that you also have a support such as this.
I wonder if maybe some of the pain meds that are timed release in a patch might help you? I know that they can be expensive. however, maybe considering your condition you might qualify for help with them. I too have problems with my gut from taking NSAIDs for 20 years. I can not take a single ibuprofen now without it causing considerable pain.
Take care and hang in there. God bless you.

If your RA doctor is treating your pain then you might want to consider a pain management doctor. A devise called a medication pump could possible be implanted and that way the pain medication could bypass your gut. Something to consider, might be of help for you.
Many well wishes...
