What a crazy ride I have been on since June! fractured 2 lumbar vertabraes, diagnosed with osteoporosis from dexascan! started forteo injections. After severe joint pain, X-rays, bloodwork, MRI, emg and finally an ultrasound showed RA in my right hand! all other tests are good! Started 2.5 methotrexate 4xweek, 30 mg prendisone (weening down to 20) norco 2xday, plus folic acid & nexium! Trying to do all the research I can and stay positive! if you have a reaction to methotrexate, how soon is it usually?

Methotrexate is a very scary medication, However in the small amounts that is used to treat RA, you might not have a reaction. I know it's easy to worry, what you need to do is write down all your concerns and have that list ready when you go back to your doctor for your follow up visit.
Sometimes doing too much research can be almost as bad as the disease. Many people take methotrexate for their RA and have no reactions at all, the folic acid should help to counter any reactions.
I was very afraid of this medicine when I first started it and found it to help me better than anything else, it made me have skinny knees for the first time since like forever. My swelling went down so try to think positive about how much better you'll feel on this medication.
I think most of the reactions listed are those that cancer patients get as they get higher doseages of methotrexate, hope this makes sense and helps with some of your fears. Maybe ask your doctor about doing (methotrexate)mtx injections, the injection by pass the stomach so the stomach upsets are lowers.
I'm on protonix an older stomach medication as I have had ulcers.
Go to the national RA website and see if there is a RA group in your area to help with more support.
