Prednisone

I'm 77 years old with Rheumatoid Arthritis. I had sever reaction to methotrexate and had to stop. I am presently taking prednisone and hydrocodone and I have no joint pain but I also have a sever skin rash. If I take a prednisone boost to 50 mgs, my rash goes away and I feel great. Lowering the prednisone down to 20 mgs and my rash comes back again. It is very uncomfortable but still no joint pain. I have been on low doses of prednisone fo over 10 years ( 5mgs ). I feel good except for the darn rash. Have any suggestions about the proper level of prednisone I can take? I hear it's bad for you but I have had no problems as of yet.

I have been to 5 different Dermotologists and no one can tell me what this rash is. I have also been sent to a cancer center in Colorado and they have no idea. Many tests just come up negative.

Thanks for that info. I know about the prednisone rash but it is used also to relieve a rash. In todays world, just about all prescription drugs will state that a rash may be a side effect. However my rash comes and goes and changes its features about every 2 months. It's quite unusual.

I have had biopsies at both the cancer center in Colo Springs and at all 5 dermatologists. Still nothing.......Thanks for your reply.
