Hi all this is my first post :-)

Suppose to start Enbrel soon..when I get back blood work

Have been battling RA for 20yrs now

meds right now r predisone 10mgs a day
arava
have been on remicade it stopped working
also orencia

I also have take thyriod meds

I am a little nervous bout giving myself the shot

I am use to needles I get blood work once a month and of course the infusions from remicade and orencia I use to get had too .....

I am use gonna be using the sureclick

Warm welcome to the HW forum. I take enbril also. Started out on Humira. There are several here that inject with either syringe or pen. You might look at some old threads from myself and Don also, that should provide some tips and encouragement. A couple of things I wish I'd known: letting medication warm up at room temp reduces stinging going in. Also, injecting at a bit of an angle makes it less painful. I have tried pen, but returned to syringe. I guess cause I'm kinda a control freak and want to inject medication at my own pace. Pen injects it automatically.

I have used Humaria and now Enbrel, both with the pens and it is about as simple as it can be. Let it warm up 1/2 hr out of the frig and hit it. Hurts less than a bee sting. I take a couple of benadryl on the day I inject and it cuts back on the injection site reactions that are common when you first start.

I took it years ago, too. The ones I had were a kit with a little syringe apparatus that had to be put together! then you had to aspirate the medicine from the vial. It was like a cruel joke for someone with swollen fingers. Now, most of the kits come prefilled and the needles are very tiny. It barely hurts. I also was on Remicade and Humira for a time. I have been on Cimzia for quite a while, now. I think its working although some days I feel as if I was hit by a truck.

Good luck with it. A lot of doctors are prescribing the biologicals soon after diagnosis because they believe it will slow the joint damage.
