Should I or shouldn't I?

I'm in a dilemma.
My neurologist told me I had Cubital Tunnel syndrome. Basically it means my funny bone nerve is being pinched at my elbow.
Some days are okay and some days are purely miserable. I have to be careful of bending my elbow too much. Problem is its my domain hand.

He's suggesting surgery to move the nerve to a safe area on the inside of my elbow. It will take months of rehabilitation and I may not get full use of my arm again. If I say no, then I will face gradual deterioration of the nerve and my hand will droop and become numb.

Have any of you had this surgery or carpel tunnel syndrome surgery? I understand it's similar.

That's what worries me.
I've had this flare up before and last for over a year before. But it did go away. Now it's back again.
I just started seeing this guy last November through my rheumatologist. He helped me with a problem with my neck I was having. I did 3 months of therapy for it and it's better.
I'm just worried that it's too radical for now.
