Hi Everyone, hope someone can offer some insights into what arthritis I may have. Here's a little background info.
I had colitis 23 years ago at the age of 12, with a subsequent total colectomy. A few years ago I had really bad lower back pain and I thought it was a slipped disc but with an MRI they confirmed it was actually sacroilitis (there were bone changes) . The only way that I could control the symptoms without drugs was through a non starch diet and with a few yoga moves.
I later experienced several partial small bowel blockages which got my GI thinking that maybe I have chrons and so he started me on infliximab infusions. The infusions definitely helped my sacroilitis alot (not so sure about the bowel narrowing, it could easily be an adhesion)
Right when i started my infusions I was taking Ciprofloxacin antibiotic for pouchitis, which caused severe tendonitis in my Achilles and other joints like my wrists. I used magnesium spray to keep the joints and tendons pain free, but this pain never really want away i still have it mildly.
Last week I experienced some severe pain in my hip where I couldn't walk properly, and I had to take narcotics for 5 days to deal with the intense pain. Now I thought it was the sacroilitis causing the pain but after inspection and MRI my dr saw that I had intense inflammation and fluid build up in the synovium of the hip. He has scheduled me in for a cortisone injection under x-ray this Monday to settle it.
When I asked my rheumy what kind of arthritis i had he said 'you have colitic arthritis' but he didn't go into detail and he left me scratching my head.
So what's going on with my arthritis? Do I have peripheral arthritis, AS , a mixture of different arthritisis? Why did the infliximab take away the sacroilitis but now I have hip arthritis?
Any thoughts or explanation to help me understand this puzzle would be much appreciated.
Thanks for listening
