Hi everyone,

Just got diagnosed with RA last month after thinking I was just being weak. I used to work out with a personal trainer 2 times a week. I live a active lifestyle with a six year old daughter we never sat around. Now it seems like that's all we do. My world is flipped upside down. My left knee has been the size of a grapefruit for over a year, got it drained once just to have it fill up again. My feet are in pain and I can hardly do my 9 to 5 anymore. I feel helpless when I was so independent and strong before. Not on meds yet due to xray and blood work needing to come back. Doctor wants to put me on methotrexate. Thoughts??

Hi,
I've had RA for 10 years now, and I promise pre diagnosis was horrendous. You weren't yourself and had no idea why. Methotrexate helps a lot, im now on Actemra, and recently was taken off methotrexate, but im sure im going to be placed back on. There's not alot of other things that are shown to help, so take the meds, and take them diligently. I wish I was more consistent and maybe I could have avoided a lot. You're still early in diagnosis, so the early you start treatment the better. smile

Methotrexate is probably a good start. Did it give you any relief? If you stay on in, make sure to stay on top of your bloodwork to keep an eye on your liver functions. Also, drink lots of water daily. Good luck! I hope to hear that you are doing better and your activity is able to pick up again.
