wow! hey missie, did the pharmacy actually dispense the Humira to you? i mean...Doctor's orders overide the pharmacist. the pharmacist isn't allowed to make that judgement nevermind withold medication! oh God i cannot believe he/she would say that! so does this pharmacist go around withholding medication because of his/her opinion of it not being "safe"? that is patient neglect...and legally a form of malpractice if indeed the pharmacist refused to dispense your prescribed medications! he could get fired for that! honestly, i would call the manager of the pharmacy and report this! (if anything...you might get some freebies in RXs) holey moley! but, do you have the Humira now?
well anyway...back to you. you poor thang. {{{{big hug}}}} typically, the systemic side effects of prednisone that really bother people is called the "Cushingoid Appearance Syndrome". when you inquired about the 'buffalo hump' and 'moon face'. this sometimes happens, in most cases, involving long-term/ high dose treatment of prednisone and corticosteroids (all prednisone or mthylprednisone derivitives) . so if a person gets a shot of depopred (that's what you most likely recieved if you got a big shot of the prednisone) every now and then...you will most likely NOT get ill side effects like the moonface and such. even if you were to recieve a shot of depo say every month...the likelyhood of getting the systemic effects of the steroid you're worried about are very slim.
however, you should still be careful around people with colds/viruses because you can still become vulnerable to picking up infections due to pred's immuno-suppressive properties. the oral forms of prednisone (like the step down tapers and 15mg, 20mg and 40mg pills taken daily) are the ones that cause the most systemic effects.
but do limit your sodium intake...it will help reduce any swelling that may occur while on prednisone.
did the doc put you on oral prednisone treatment?
awe, the pain's that bad that it has caused nausea? yeah, that's rough hon....so sorry.
**the prednisone may help with the diarrhea and constipation flares you're having.**
so what are we doing about the Humira? did you finally get it?
quite honestly....in my opinion too...Humira i believe is better to be on than prednisone for disease/arthritic treatment. prednisone is a great drug, yes, but it only treats symptoms and pain and inflammation, and really masks a lot of issues that need disease oriented treatments...but ultimately pred does not slow the progress or help the causitive processes of say for instance RA or Psoriatic arthritis, Crohns, colitis...
regarding the bloodwork?...i don't know why he didn't run all the panels. usually in a lab script, an M.D. will do the entire autoimmune panels. perhaps he did? and just wants to repeat it?
we all feel for ya hon! tis the life of an arthritic patient! never an easy time...NEVER!
how are you today? and please let us know about that quacky pharmacist! i've right mind to call him and say.."what the **** man!" LOL. really! that would be like me working in the hospital and about to give a prescribed medcation to a patient and deciding to NOT GIVE it because I THOUGHT IT WAS TOO DANGEROUS OF A DRUG! ya just can't do that! well, i hope his stupidity works to your benefit...
my Walgreen's pharmacy screwed up SEVERAL times my Penatasa Rx: wrong dose wrong instructions and wrong name on the bottle (they had another prescribing doctors name on it)...i got a month supply on the house! ;)
this too shall pass. write back when you feel well enough to.
