hi, I was just diagnosed with PA, and have been on the drug methotrexate for about 10 weeks. I have not drank at all with this med but am in a wedding thid weekend and was wondering if anyone out there is on this drug and if they have gone out and had a few bevs like about 6 or so once if it will have serious side effects.........please let me know any info you folks out there may have.....thanxs

I was on methotrexate for over two year's and I never once drinked any thing with achole in it so I can't tell you one way or the other.But there will be some one that will be able to answer your question for you.I hope that you have a great time at the wedding.

Sorry to hear you have PA and are taking methotrexate for it.  The wedding this weekend, though, sounds like fun.  I think a little alcohol once in a great while with methotrexate may be ok.  But I would hesitate before I drank 6 beers while taking methotrexate.  When I say a little, I'm talking about 1-2.  You may want to run it by your doctor before you go--most doctors are fairly reasonable about alcohol.  They realize that we have lives, and occassionally a social event that will include alcohol.  Methotrexate is so hard on the liver, though, and when combined with alcohol can be devastating.  I assume that is with routine alcohol use; don't know for sure. 

Even if you decide not to drink, have fun anyway.  You can ask the bartender to make interesting non-alcholic drinks and amaze your friends with how much "alcohol" you can tolerate :)

hi and welcome..... elcamino said it very well.....mtx it is bad on the liver..... when i recently went to a wedding i thought it was going to be harder on me than it was...... i asked the bartender to make me a fancy non alch drink at first~ but then i just had cranberry juice and soda, which my husband said looked like rose wine.....
i have kids and just have commited to the fact i need to be careful and responsible for them.... if my liver goes it will not be because i neglected to care for myself, as i am the type to feel quilty ......
plus it has shown my teenagers a great example about alcohol consuption... or the lack thereof..... trust me i was the first to cook with wine and sip on a glass while doing so prior to all the meds, but my priorities have definetly changed, Good Luck yalinda

Yes I support these oppinions.

I red that the only dangerous effect for methotrexate in combination with aclohol is that the metho makes your body weak and the alcohol once again week, and gives a double trouble to the liver. And that's why excessive consumptions must be avoided. I mean there are no known "bed" chemical reactions between metho and alcohol, like such that could kill you, 4 example like alc and diazepam, which I know is really bad ;) But just in case do not drink alcohol 2 hours before and after taking the metho cool

I shouldn't share this but I will. Every year I play in a women's golf tournament with my sister, sister-in-law and a bunch of friends. The tournament is pretty much a drink fest not a golf tournamanet. Since I was on Methotrexate this year, I skipped my weekly dose (I know very bad) and I allowed myself three beers. I haven't noticed any problems but I don't think a bad liver has symptoms. I can also tell you that I was really drunk from three beers and I consumed these over a 4 1/2 hour timeframe.

thanx for all your info guys I willtake it all in and probably just have 2 or 3 bevs....I think it will be great if I can have a good time like Theresa......
